  1. To add insult to injury some nice chappie keeps dumping big piles of brash in the entrance to my yard, keep getting letters from the council telling me to move it to a licenced landfill or face the consequences My mate Leaky is a plumber charging 650 a day for a battered old van a few tools and no yard( he`s Corgi reg though)
  2. Used to do the stump grinding for a tree chap outside Guildford, who wouldnt get out of bed for less than £750 a day and that was 9 years ago
  3. The chappie from the councils argument was that the "waste" was produced elsewhere and was being imported onto the propery, before being processed and sold on, therefore we were intending to operate as a Transfer Station. We only wanted to store chip to compost it and timber to be split into firewood. Surrey C.C have rejected my first application and served an enforcement notice on my landlord. Our friends down the road are getting the council to improve sight lines for entering and leaving the site!!
  4. No not AA approved, considering going for it this year. Used to sub for a few AA contractors around here( bit of an eye opener!!)
  5. Been charging £720 per day for 2 man team 7.5 tonner and 8 inch chipper for the last year or so and have been very busy, some of the bigger companies around here have been getting £900 -£1200 per day for the same!!
  6. Well if you knew the amount of time and money i have spent trying to get planning permission for the storage of logs and woodchip on a little corner if a field i rent, yet one of our travelling fraternity brought a field down the road covered it in crushed concrete, buldozed the trees and hedges moved a caravan on and the council was happy- Not bitter just twisted....
  7. Buy youself a bit of land, get a big caravan, a Transit with a big flashing light on the top, start knocking on doors for your work- the council wont touch you!
  8. Had a Volvo 140 on tilt and slide trailer behind a 1300 mog on the M25 4years ago, made the local radio, max a big mog can tow is 18t but dont do it, they aint heavy enough to stop a big load safely!! (VOSA said mog and trailer brakes were almost 100%) still jacked it and closed 2 lanes
  9. Sit down one evening with a drink to hand and then add up every expense you business or potential business may incur over the next 12 months, this means everything, insurance , rent, mortage, finance, fuel, breakages, repairs, holidays, advertising, bad debts, wages, tax, postage stationary, tipping etc- leave no stone unturned. You will be horrified. We charge £350 per man per day regardless of climber or groundie, have enough work not too worry and can pay the bills without loosing too much sleep. In simple terms it stunned me how much i was spending on running the business before i even turned a profit and upped my rates to suit
  10. Forgot to add bar and chain lasted not as long as dedicated chain oil, but not too bad as long as tension and chain sharpness was constantly checked Also dog liked to lick oil off saws in the back of van, sure saved time on cleaning!
  11. Hi to all, New to forum Used to run used veg oil from chip shop in saws and harvester, worked ok not great Constantly felt hungry though!
