  1. This job required a 3D result, believe me trees are easy compared to 300yr old galleon figureheads
  2. He he I’ve done many many trees....... how’s about this for an unusual job.......
  3. Yep, so do students and apprentices, jumping in and stopping someone half way through and then explaining what they should have done teaches nothing, allowing them to get things wrong ( or at least not perfect ) allows them to look, compare with good examples and learn........ Keep it up John
  4. Buy some climbing gear and learn how to use it, off to a local park and climb a few tree's.. Sounds like an opening scene from Casualty........
  5. se7enthdevil " the bark may be stunning but the wood is as plain as any normal eucalyptus. " Yep, what he said is spot on
  6. Only related to accidents in the U.K. there are findings of some recent investigations here...... Case studies
  7. Thanks for all the p.m.'s so far I will be speaking to the client over the weekend and I will get back to everyone individually during next week, rest assured your interest will be responded to, and the job seems to be getting better and better. Just to clarify, there is no gain in this for me, I am fortunate to be in a position where I can genuinely help members of the forum to have an opportunity to be involved in something that has resonance within our industry, the finished work will be viewed by some influential people and even more who will aspire to be as good as you. Blue skies
  8. Yes m8, it will recover if the laylandii is removed, you can give it a boost by watering regularly it to support the new growth development. It might take a couple of years, tree time n all
  9. I have been approached with an interesting request that requires the services of a competent chainsaw carver. The project will be a permanent fixture in a prominent Arb related setting, viewed by thousands of people over the years and will receive quite a lot of targeted publicity. The remit is quite open at this stage but it will revolve around Arboriculture/wildlife theme - NO BEARS WITH FISHES!!! I cant give any details on remuneration at the moment as the project is currently being built, but my spider senses tell me it's going to worth more in publicity/future commissions and reputation rather than mountains of cash. If you are interested please p.m. me with examples of some of your masterpieces ( or a link to where I can access them ) and I will approach the client with the pick of the bunch. Once we have selected the most suitable we will move forward to a meeting on site to view the location and discuss details. The timescale is quite current so I would imagine a start date in the very near future i.e. job done by Christmas. Gentlemen ( and ladies ), over to you if you are interested......
  10. Porridge for breakfast, eat lots of nuts throughout the day....graze on a handfull whether you feel hungry or not, drink water, get to bed for 7-8 hours sleep and rest at least two days a week..... And by rest i mean relax, switch off and do nothing connected with work, phone people back when you are at 'work' and resist the urge to 'just give em' a bell. This wont fix everything but it always gave me a refrence point when i was working waayyyy to much and if you keep it up combined with a good diet and sleep you will feel more resiliant to the enevitable wear and tear on your health and spirit. Blue Skies
  11. We've lost more than the plot methinks.............
  12. They are Nokian TR2's, 400 front 480 rears. Really impressed with the grip, even in waterlogged clay pulling a load. Nokian TRI 2 400/80 R28 151A8 TL : purchase agricultural tyres - Tyre Leader Very different to the lil' one.........
  13. A big change from the old ford
  14. The ISA is an american based organisation but they are striving to gain recognition in the uk and europe. Their exam is strong on tree care and biology, including irrigation and soil science with no practical elements where as the RFS Does include practical elements both in application and assessments. It can be done either by attending a college - usually one day a week - for a year or even online/distance learning. I'm not sure where you are based, but in the london area Capel Manor College currently deliver the R.F.S. and also host the ISA exam day. I'm pretty sure most land based colleges will give you access to one or both of them. Level 4 would be my ultimate goal in your position, AA Tech Cert is highly regarded and gaining the RFS first would give you a good grounding in the terminology and principles that would be needed to be comfortable when starting out at level 4. Ultimately it's up to you, there are so many variations and options available, good on you for wanting to take your knowledge to higher levels m8
  15. Yep, he's a good lad who can use a saw, listen and learn. Look out Oz.......
  16. The RFS are grateful for your felling skills Nathan
  17. The ISA cert arborist is ok but has big limitations in the fact that it is self taught - read, memorise, repeat - and the exam is multiple choice, i would suggest you seriously consider the RFS cert Arb, it's also level 2 but you will 'learn' more and it is recognised in the u.k. It also has the extension possibilities of the full cert arb status if supported by a selection of n.p.t.c. Tickets - most of which you may have already.
