  1. Is there anyone coming that would have a surplus pair of spikes to sell?
  2. Cognitive therapy is well worth trying - just persevere with it and you'll get results. Its not all these irate customers and rubbish staff that make you angry - its how you talk to yourself (in your head!) about it. They might well be annoying to everybody but there are ways and means to deal with other people without questioning yourself and your ability to cope with it
  3. I'm good for the donation so count me in. I'll be camping too. Slack line would be good for a laugh - I'll need to tune into my zen powers for that one!
  4. I'm thinking small mammal - stote?
  5. I'd like to have a go at some ART gear and try some SRT setups. Can we camp there Dean?
  6. Just caught this programme part way though - seems pretty interesting. BBC1 right now
  7. So its between a dongle or a wireless router through landline. Its naughty to use other people's connection but its rather slack to not secure your network. Going halves is an idea. Are these dongle things very much slower than land line broadband? I know they have download limits but I don't download much more than a few pdf files
  8. I'm setting up in a new house soon and I've been thinking about the best way of having internet connection. My current idea is to have no landline, just a mobile phone and connect to my mobile via bluetooth (which is in built in my laptop). This way I would not need a landline (and line rental charge) which are of limited use when I'm out and about most of the time. It would also allow me to connect to the net anywhere provided I had enough battery in my mobile. Any tech guru's out there that thinks this is a good idea or is there a better way around it?
  9. Tee hee. I'm starting to get a little christmas cheer cos I've been on ride on mowers for a week! Unfortunately I can't remember how I made that soup otherwise I'd make it again. I can have a do at something different but I don't want to risk loosing a michelline star! I'll fetch some spicy lamb sausages from the famous butcher in Clitheroe.
  10. How much for one of these? Weight?
  11. This post may be a bit premature as some folk are busy with work or on holiday but what do you think about another get-together in the Lancashire or Yorkshire area in April/May. I'm thinking: Beers, banter, gear and gadgets, knowledge sharing, camping, rec climbs. Good laugh, less rules and much cheaper than the big organised events
  12. Can anyone recommend a good one then? It seems there's a lot of variation in reliability, price and legality.
  13. I've not been to a competition for a number of years. What is the speed climber's preferred setup nowadays? Surely it has to be a fail safe setup to meet ISA standards; i.e. you can let go at any point and your gear will prevent freefall
  14. I have a concern about the hand over hand method. I've seen climbers advance themselves up the tree in this way using a VT and a pulley and unless I'm mistaken if you go up a bit and have to let go (for want of an example because you get a load of wasps attacking you), then you are going to free fall at least the distance of the slack. If the VT doesn't grab you've had it.
  15. Neither can I but the contents of british standards are not published on the web unfortunately and they cost a packet to download.
  16. Its 22kn though I don't happen to know where that is stated though it is most probably in BS EN 362:2004 Personal protective equipment against falls from a height. Connectors and maybe else ware. I'm sure someone will clarify this soon enough. I would have thought it would be worth putting in the AFAG 401.
  17. I've been told that windows vista uses a whole 1 gig of ram so if thats what you are running and you only have 1 gig then I reckon that's your problem. XP uses half a gig so leaving you enough RAM to do other things.
  18. I found a kolibri more difficult to footlock in than a butterfly. I think its something to do with the way the leg loops slide about more freely in the kolibri making me more unstable hence less balanced. That was just from a little trial so I'm not knocking the kolibri.
  19. Its about time I did a review on the Treetop smock. I've been trying it out in various weather and I have to say I like it very much. Expect a full review in due course.
  20. This is a result of a combination of the wild wind we had over the weekend and this fungal decay point. We got the stem down safely but I didn't get a chance to take a pic with the stem hanging on. Any of you fungi guru's know what this one is, displayed on the stem? Would recognising this fungi on other trees be cause to raise alarm bells? My guess is that it looks similar to stereum rugosum.
  21. I saw this Sycamore on a walk today and was interested by the burr at the base at first then I got puzzled as to weather it was one tree or two. From the burr pic it looks likely but from round the other side I'm not so sure. I saw another couple nearby growing out of a stone wall and it was pretty mature. The base was covered in moss and soil so it was hard to tell but I reckon that could have grown from being cut back in the past. The growth form of sycamore's lend itself to this shape quite typically - am I correct?
  22. Lets keep this going as it helps all of us build a good ID knowledge. Im going with T. dolobrata providing the scales are white underneath.
  23. I've tried taking a couple of better photo's. Like I said I've already made my judgement on the rope condition but it is interesting to see how people's opinions vary. I got it snagged on barb wire in the tree so there's more damage now! I can still make two useable ropes which makes sense. Any recommendations on a new rope to try when I get an new 50m one?
  24. Alright they're intended for me! I need them in pink to go with the rest of my attire. What make/brand are they?
