  1. I think some one is take the piss l0l.
  2. Icicle hitch best gripping hitch around and releases easier than any thing i used an i tested every hitch in the treeclimber c. and on the net. VT is a fussy hitch it has to be spot on or it will creep when you need to wrap a hitch quickly go for the icicle you will love its compact size and great gripping power use a MP for slackin.

A good climber can easily see why there good bits of kit. if some thing can make you safer and you ignore it well touch alot of wood. I would never say ill never cut myself but i will make sure i use every thing availible to protect myself from that. Trust me ill never put myself in front of a saw on purpose but we all use a 200t one handed think how easy it could kick back you will not stop kick back one handed so we all take risk. We need a light sabre ha ha that would make life easier. Be safe before anything else anything else can be your asse.
  4. You need to push your self otherwise how do you learn just make sure you have plenty of time dont rush. I would never have gone up 100ft trees unless i was pushed i cacked myself bad when i was 80ft up but almost right away you settle in check every thing makes sure you double secured look down look around dont freeze And what a view you get i wont do any thing over 100+ft its not profitable for small companies and they just ruin your body in time many qualifed mates who been doing this years complain about problems. For me every time i went higher than the last i got more and more comfortable below that hight. ill never stop pushing myself but i wont do any thing im unhappy with you will loose concentration. You cant afford mistakes it can an will kill you unless your 100% in a tree get out walk away there any plenty of others.

I did try the vt once i believe it was not set properly cos it would creep and slip when i tested it. That put me right off it But seems its popular.

  9. I been doing this a little over 4 years and your ready to go out when you are comfortable in any tree. Shaping skill comes with time and like some one said it wud be embarrasing if you turned up to a job and lost your bottle. Gud luk must get insured it comes off ur yearly bill dont sweat the price to much as for employee liability dont employ people sub contract the ground work out always loop holes.
  10. The best climbers are ex groundies simple they know whats what up top and down low. And yes a cool head is a sure sign of a competent climber when the sh*t hits the fan they can smoothly work it out. In a sentance a good climber values his groundie as much as him self theres no i in team cant work without them equal respect both jobs are equally hard in totally different ways.

A saw should never touch any part of the body period but they do otherwise we would not have protection. Since the saw is closest to the hand and arm to me it makes sense to protect them areas. They run the same protection as trousers just with less layers i think 4-5 layers they are by no means perfect but some thing is better than nothing Oh no i worked with people who have caught them selfs i believe a symtom called human.
  13. Hey well good to see the yanks they get some well tasty trees can only get 100ft if im lucky. We got some screamers red woods but TPO's.

No one intends to hit themselfs that why we call them accidents i have been in trees with other climbers an they have caught themselfs you protect your legs when most chainsaw work is above the legs unless on the ground i think law should require them if there is protection it should be worn plus in winter there warmer.
  17. Ford transit is the best reason cheap cheap cheap to repair easy many parts simple engines go for TD that extra omf is worth it. 4 stage tipper can push many tonnes and can tow lots of weight 3.5 legally. but many go over towing there chippers with full loads any way

Thanks for the reply i wear it the right way but i do get lower back ache after useing it for a few hours. What i meant by high back is its bigger than other harnesses at the back which spreads the load more. My webbing between the lower rings on the legs is wearing wear is goes through the ring do you have that. One upgrade would be thicker padding for it. Hey what sort of climbing gear do you use.
  20. Yeah had dead arms think its cos i put my arms under my pillow and sleep on them its freaky when ya wake up and try to use them ha ha.

Hey always been fasinated by different gear us climbers use can people put pics of there climbing set up on here if any thing can show whats about maybe put its advantages etc. This is one of my 2 harnesses Its comfortable but not for prolonged use plus the sliding d is rope which im not to keen on. But the click in click out buckles were for me and the high back. I use a icicle hitch as i tried many others eg prussik blakes and they can slide but the icicle grips better and releases better i trust this hitch. I use DR technique. First ladder then ALT till i reach my tie in point then work off my main line for adjusting height and i use a petzl grillon for work positioning. I am expaning my style but testing different ways eg for big wide spread trees a big shot is a must. Pines etc spiking is good but only for take downs. Not a great fan of a cambium saver as i dont like the decent speed can be jerky. Too much wear on the friction hitch. I have never used SRT any one has let me know its benefits cheers. Not saying my way is perfect its not but i found it to work for me.
  22. Thats not quiet how it works no one works alone. Ok i cut the tree in under an hour and had cleared what was left with my groundie if were being technical sonny. A job like that would take 2.5 hours maybe if i had no arms lol.
  23. Hey again yes honesltly i only takes about that for a reduction for trees this size. Once im roped up top the rest is all down hill set my reduction level at the top and just spiral down. i have some one clear up whilst i cut. I have my groundsman time me most the time so i get to jobs ontime. I appreciate your comments and would love to learn how others go about climbing. Oh an i figure every job i quote i wanna get so i price accordingly dont get me wrong some times i blow my own asse off but im a newer company its all learning.
  24. Wow if i ever knocked a bt line out id have been sacked. although on one job with a big company one of the bods did knock one out and then taped it with electrical tape ha ha that was bad but funny.
  25. I pay both its not a choice unfortunatly limited hight tho. But there is no need to rip people off. That particular job took hour and a quater with a cup of tea. Add up say 5 in a day and it dont look so bad now does it. Plus my man its winter work goes quiet so out come the cheap prices.
