  1. Thanks Stubby.....I've sailed with some of those who were on these convoys in their younger days (when I was in my younger days ) though most of them have now "crossed the bar". If I've never achieved much in life at the very least I can say I've bought and shared a beer with some very quiet, brave men, both engineroom and deckside.......
  2. Sadly the British Merchant Navy was generally treated shabbily during WW II. The Losses on the Murmansk run were horrendus as were those on the Atlantic convoys. If you research it you'll find tales of incredible bravery and selflessness but also tales of horrors you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. Tankers were their worst nightmare and has been quoted "I prefer ammo ships meself.......boom !....you'll know nothing about it." If your ship was sunk...your pay stopped. I think that was changed towards the end of the war. William Doxfords at the Pallion works on the Tyne and the yards in Greenock and Belfast could not produce new tonnage at the rate they were being sunk, hence in the later years "Liberty Ships" from the states....first vessels to be modular built (eg built in sections at different yards and final assembled in drydock). Overall the whole series of affairs was not a good reflection on the ship owners or indeed the government of the time. IMHO opinion British Seafarer's were (are) the finest in the world. They have never received full recognition for WW II actions and I doubt they ever will.
  3. And perhaps offer a "Job Finders Fee" either straight payment or percentage of price, on confirmation of job. That way you'll only pay for work coming in and not the prospect of work

  13. 1) How exactly are you testing them ? 2) Could be the problem is elsewhere as I was alluding to and Dean said. Whereaway are you ? If you wish pm me your number and I'll call tomoz and talk you through it
  14. Rattling the grey matter here..... The two wire/body earth has an inbuilt switch operated by the plunger or bi-metalic (not sure) so if you connect the pull circuit the plunger will clatter in and out. I think there was a version where this was switched externally,ie an override switch......same same oil pressure override, preventing permanent power to the pull coil.
  15. Should be two I think, solenoid body being the earth.
  16. How old is the engine, and did it originate from EPS in the states ? Have the old coils been checked on the bench ? Check the wiring diagram does it have a pair of diodes in the solenoid wiring loom ? Does it run then stop randomly or no start ? Check that the "pull" coil wiring is not permanently live.
  17. Rhetorical question Dean ? ........
  18. Depending what you want.......Greenplant in Guildford or for larger machines Orange Plant in Burgess Hill.
  19. Awwww Bless.
  20. Yes amazing pictures.....Bloody heck they do bring it home....There is one thing I see in them though......."Backbone".....If you understand me.
  21. Nah......you have purely brought to peoples attention the facts of Godwins law, that the probability of that scenario occuring will approach 1 as a thread such as this progresses.....Your post was not in the thread context but was purely educational however your educational prowess may now lead others to contemplate the interjection of a relevant comment to lose "the (what ? ) argument:.......this however would require all but the OP to post up in this vein, cos if you have a wining side then you must have a losing side....you could however simply have a poll of present contributers....ayes and nayes for the OP's opening statement ........a simple vote without mentioning the potentially unmentionable.........alternatively you could, with reference to the OP's opening statement and bearing in mind peatff's contribution.... think of the probability of the improbability drive to negate Godwins law probabilty nearing 1 PS.....Peterson's England career over........LBW or clean bowled ?
  22. Definately .......BTW..I'm a dog owner
