  1. Not used the 201 for a while. Where as the 201 is 1,3mm and 3/8 Pico the 540 is the same but has the option of running 1,1mm .325..not tried the smaller .325 yet other than on a 540i which is nice but perhaps does clear chip too well but that could just be a battery thing saw thing. Ergonomic wise the husky has the edge as they do. I am really impressed by it's power. If your a new operator it's a good saw to start with.
  2. Lots of threads on this but it depends on what you do. 550 in my opinion is the best general saw on the market. With 13,15 and 18 inch bars will see you right. I've never got on with the bigger 560 it just seems not much of an upgrade in power for the weight. An 18 inch lives on that. 572 is lovely but I don't use it often I have 18 20 and 24 inch bars for that. When you want to log up my go to saw. My 540xp mk3 is a little pocket rocket light and nimble. Lovely for next to the chipper and the mewp. I really like mine it does struggle on bigger timber but upto 15" it's great. If you want a bigger saw than a 550 but not quite a 572xp. Then my favourite mid range saw is the Stihl ms400. Under rated saw that but about 68cc so it is big. My line up of most used is 550xpg 540xp mk 3 572xpg Then the 560 just because it's a bit in-between the outstanding 550 and 572. I'd have a 562 to try but I'm so impressed by the ms400 I'd actually get that.
  3. Press the auto control button left and right and then the position wheel should move the links. The other thing to check is if you have a manual linkage adjustment out the back window is vertical and not at 90 degrees in one of the notches or it won't move on the auto control.
  4. Trilo do a similar thing. They a massive one for mowing runways and airports. I've only seen the sucky for leaves on golf courses but Enfield council have one that mows as well.
  5. Where as I knew it was theoretically possible I was surprised when i saw it the first time. I actually went through my photos to try and find the torn lemon shaft but I couldn't. It wasn't a big hp disparity form tractor to shaft either. One thing that is worth considering is that if you can fit and handle a bigger machine as I'm going to guess a 190 is 1.9m wide. I know a 1,9m on a alpine is big but on a valtra isnt. I've always run mowers between 1.8 and 3.2m most conservation mowing I've done I've always kept it 2.3m.to 2,5m so it covers the back of the tractor.
  6. Be careful about putting a 190 odd hp through the mower. Normally the gearboxes can take it but the PTO shafts can't and then deform. You really want a thick walled star shaft for putting that power through it. Don't use a lemon shaft rated for about 70hp or it will break
  7. Not much good to you now but that is operating a lot now. Its well known now as the more dodgy vehicles don't start turning up till about 6pm....when it's all closedn
  8. I've only used the rytec one. Which is really really good the only thing I find is they fill up really really quickly. Rytech was high tip so you could tip in right into a trailer. I've mown long grass and light scrub with it..works well just don't smash up big stuff and they last quite well.
  9. A random stop or had they set up an operation? The weighbridge at Hatfield on the A1 is very busy now with stops. Never seems to be stopping the overloaded over width/length agri vehicles.

I live about 7 miles from the outside of the ulez. I never go that direction so it's never been an issue. But if it was about improving air quality surely it should be a national scheme. No monsters like me driving ten of thousands of miles in a euro 5 diesel. What rags me is when I go to Heathrow Terminal 5 I get to the roundabout for the terminal and I drive from the roundabout to the car park and that is my ulez journey. About 300 yards.
  11. I expect from an insurance point of view they are more likely to cover your tools in a timber clad shipping container than in wooden building.
  12. Yes it will be fine. Ram a 9.5t behind a valtra a95 which was the new shape 900 valmet and a 8.5 behind a 8100. I personally prefer krpan mainly because of the folding butt plate which means if you need to winch in a sensitive area you can fold it up so it doesn't dig in. The little a series with a full set of front weights with the winch on a sheet of 18mm ply did a good job not making a mess.
  13. I like cutting 2.2 or 2.4 in hardwood if I have to stack by hand. Bends tend to cut out better in 2.2 and even butt ends can be stacked at that size. You also can convert a little further up the tree. Softwoods 3m Is easier or 2.8 if it is heavy stuff. As a forwarder driver I like as long as possible I would rather stack 4.8 on the machine than 2 bays of 2.4. over the years I've cut everything from 2m to 5m. For the lorry 4 bays of 3m is best.
  14. I mostly put hardwood through it. But in a similar way when I have overloaded it with the rollers quick and then you block it. Which is a bit of a pita to unblock when you do it properly and the whole flywheel chamber is full too.
  15. The 165 is a fantastic chipper. It's a solid bit of kit. I prefer it to the timberwolf and the forst but the forst would be a close second. I've spent more time with tracked version that the towed. Either way greenmech has sorted it with this machine. The arborist 150 is a toy compared to the 165d. Feed rollers are really strong. I think I've only blocked the thing once...
  16. Often cheaper under one combined policy. Also most companies won't touch chippers or tools without insuring something else as well.
  17. How was it today? Debating going but not sure if it's worth the 5 hour round trip?
  18. I've used smartlog and merit check. For tool checks merit check works really well. Other things work well in smartlog. Not sure if there is an arb specific one.
  19. Tariff number would be the easiest place to start I would think.
  20. I have a teng one which was about 140 quid it goes up to 350nm I think. It's one where you unlock it and turn it to the correct torque. If you spend more you can get digital read outs and beeps rather than clicks. Cheaper than a blade through the side of the chipper. I've always used one I even get the thing calibrated which is 40 quid.
  21. The DR mowers are quite good. I'm a big fan of BCS flail/rotary setups but they can be a real pain to move around. Depends on what you are.cutting but I use to do a lot of footpath cutting with a wheeled strimmer not a bad finish and it was fairly quick.
  22. Milwaukee do a cordless compressor. Surely the purchase of this will allow the cleaning of saws in fields, workshop and on the tailgates of pickup trucks.
  23. Stihl ms400 the most underrated saw in the Stihl lineup. I'd have one over the 562xp.
  24. Most trees in the UK can be done with a 15" bar. When training beginners and people who know a lot less than they think they struggle to get round a 15" bar in a timely manor achieving an accurate sharpen. There is also a lot to cover on a chainsaw course so spending hours sharpening huge chains on knackered saws the boss sent for some professional maintenance is really a waste of time.
  25. On a side note are house insurance, national insurance, health insurance and vehicle insurance all.part.of the same insurance racket? I know volcano insurance is legit. Asking for a friend.
