  1. xt hitch on blaze i cannot fault. vt on 13mm climbing line. i find its good to bust out the old blakes every so often, if only to remind myself how good the newer hitches are! note to lockjack users-watch that the wooden ball doesnt get caught in crabiner, this can hold the 'jack open and lead to a quick descent
  2. what makes rope twist below your hitch? my blaze seems to twist way more than 13mm rope and its starting to p#ss me off! is there any way of tieing my vt or xt in a way that discourages the dreaded twist? also, has anyone used the new spiderjack and cocoon from art? whar is the cocoon for as well or is it just a new cambium saver?

i found the ocean poly didnt work with some hitches, dont think it likes the tight bends. the hitch climber though, is a touch of class equipment
  4. all on site staff have to have first aid cert and hazard id also has to have emergency procedures-our trucks are fitted with a big red button that is pressed in emergency and is direct to emergency services, trucks all have gps for positioning. luckily havent used the system yet so i hope it all works as well as it should>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
  5. Moved out to nz just over 4 years ago and really cant see any reason to leave. work is cruizy, arborists on the occupational shortage list, weather heaps better than back home, theres afew dodgy companies but its gettin better. if anyone needs some contacts or jobs,etc.. give us a bell before you come out and im sure il be able to pass some numbers on
  6. Another scenario that isnt pactised by many people is how to do a footlock rescue. Start work on a cold morning, set line in the tree and footlock up. After 15m the climber starts cramping up and can no longer go any further. Youve only got a few minutes before suspension trauma can set in. Or perhaps long hair gets trapped in hitch? How do you rescue the climber? This happened here and it was a very experienced guy that had to be resued. Admitadley(sorry for spelling) its a rare situation but hopefully all rescues should be a rare occurence. I will post pics of rescue tech. The placethat i work at has a mandatory afternoon at least once a month to practice aerial rescues. The thing that we noticed was that people tend to pracice rescue from an easy spot in the tree instead of getting into an awkward place with weird body position. Surely this is the spot that an accident is more likely to happen? also company policy to carry spare hitch on harness to enable rescue from a damaged line. some people think this all OTT but personaly i think its nice and reassuring
  7. secret life of trees is a great read. Remarkable trees by thomas pakenham also good-uk and international onee.
  8. no worries. ill try and get some contact details for ya, tis only small country after all..
  9. 7.30 til 4pm. thats 8hrs for work, 8hrs for play and 8hrs for sleep.
  10. sleepin in the canopy is a great way to sleep, crazy waking up with birds andpossums on the ledge 18m up. climbing feels real different with head torches as well.crap photos but nevermind...
  11. try and do some lead climbing at an indoor rock climbing wall. will definetely help your upper body get stronger and once you get used to climbing above your anchor point (on rock) then climbing below it (in trees) doesnt seem anywhere near as bad. And the more time you spend in the trees the easier it gets. good luck bro.
  12. im presuming you pull the accessory cord and the ropeman opens itself and the whole system runs down the line to the climber? is the ropeman really rated to do this?i thought not but this does open a few ideas.......... but then again pulling that cord will close the ropeman will it not?
  13. im sure this isnt new but it was to me when i got shown it!you can theoretically have as many anchors as you want with this setup and its retrievable. It definetely works as i had an anchor snap out on me using this and it stopped me hitting the ground.good to use on old rotten pollards etc..
  14. collecting cones in new zealand, barefoot to protect the epiphytes and bark.fun.
  15. still trying to get the pics online steve-took them at 12megapixel and so havin trouble loading them onto site-or it might be me being crap.....
  16. be silly not too:thrasher:
  17. this is my mates company back home in the uk. was his uncles landie driving home after work and splat the pop got him. took out the lines as well. driver got out somehow, told passersby to f8ck off due to the powerlines and then promptly collapsed. Just realised this in the wrong thread......................ah well
  18. Yeah i like the M tech but whilst using it the other day i contemplated one of the anchors failing. The amount of slack in the system could cause a lot of pain. still it gots it uses and its nice to have up ya sleeve when ya need it
  19. Cant really fault my klima boots. ones ive got ive had for 3 years and ive never had boots that long before. get them resoled every 9months and bobs ya uncle. bit heavy and stiff at first but soles of feet are way more comfy and spiking has no pressure points. expensive on the kiwi dollar though...
  20. sure do steve. got the new zealand nationals next month. got heaps of pics from beddes when he came over, learnt heaps, i can post them if you want. neat ones showing how to back up dodgy anchor points, rescues from footlocking, etc... How did you find the xt hitch by the way? works great for me and was wondering if anyone else uses it.
  21. this is the rerievable redi steve. clip end of your line to the little pulley and make sure it stays connecetd to you and its ez as(caritool works well).to retrieve just unclip your spliced eye and pull the tail of your rope to you. works for me anyway.this is the only retrieve i know of that keeps your main anchor in place and just retrieves the redirect. beddes showed us the retrievable double pulley but i found it to be a little bit too involved.
  22. Hi steve here is the pic as promised. Works really well for me on this setup but ive had good results on other 13mm rope as wll. It will be interesting to see what you think of it, i found the ocean poly to stiff though. ill post some pics of the redirect as well for you, 2 variations-one tech retrieves the cambium saver and the redirect-good for the last branch and 1tech retrieves the redirect but leaves the cambium saver in.again, pics make it ez. nice forum by the way, heaps better than treebuzz.
  23. treemotion hitchclimber oc hitch spare beeline hitch(for double roping) footlock strop spare pulley+dyneema sling sling with 2 carabiners and pulley for retrievable redirect. Throwball-good to atach to rpe for throwing in crown fist aid kit ropeman-to be relaced with cinch. think ive got new hitch setup, its a twist on the vt but ive changed the wraps somewhat.3 wraps around the rope then one x around the rope, then 1 x on itself and 1 around the rope again .ill post a pic tomorrow, itll be a lot easier. it seems a bit of gear to carry but it all gets used so its all useful.
