  1. yer very little cost billhooks which had sinse i started cleaving irons (froe) made from a busted leaf spring on my truck and the one for paling an old blacksmiths rasp and an old cut down grass swap to make a shave out of. really enjoy making my own fencing materials and putting it up in a fence being able to take it from standing tree to finished product . by the way quickthorn very nice job of that hedge in your avatar what style do you do was you at the hedge laying nationals?
  2. not sure what there paying at the moment as the last couple of lots ive done we have used are selfs made them a little bigger for hedge laying stakes the other day i had all the lengths alllready sawn out hand shaved and made 28 bundles with 25 in each bundle know guys that do it all the time that do far more than that
  3. have made thousands of bundles of chestnut pailing over the years its supricing just how quick you can get at cleaving them out .if you try doing it with a splitter you wouldnt be able to correct it when it starts to run off like you can with a froe you would get so much waste and miss splits i couldnt see it being cost effective
  4. putting up a deer fence at the moment they say the minimum fence height for muntjac is 1.5m deer have been doing alot of damage in woodlands around here at the mo
  5. have seen that done with sweet chestnut to in the woods where i do coppicing was making some hedgelaying stakes this morning for a job
  6. i have the Siemens M65 great phone put up with loads of abuse but hard to get hold of think theres still a few on ebay

  9. seen those before look like a great bit of kit but bet its not cheap but would be great for small jobs when theres not enough wood to make it worth moving my forwarder

  12. hi guys had a call from a guy i do some subbing for sometimes .saying he is quoting for a job taking down a load of populars average butt size of 2ft and maybe as many as 100 tree to come out .they where planted as a wind break was just wondering if he gets this job is there any market for the timber ? jobs in the south east area if that makes a difference
  13. got a phone call from a customer asking why i wasnt there to take down his trees as i was ment to be there at 9am .he felt stupid when i reminded him the clocks change lol
  14. hi did any of you guys catch planet mechanics tonight of the national geographic channel ? they converted a pick up to run on wood gas very intresting
  15. really after something with a toe cap like a high boot for when working in brambles i have a pair of Fortec V20 Waterwear Boot lasted under 6months and there not really waterproof
  16. cheers for all the advice guys those hiax look like some nice boots . im wondering just how much heavier and hotter a chainsaw boot would be to work in than normal safety boots all that padding must make a difference i know my saw boots i have at the mo are heavy but take a bit longer to get wet feet in than my work boots lol
  17. hi any of you guys recomend and good waterproof work boots prefer high boot they dont have to be chainsaw boots as i just want them for when doing fencing work and other stuff cheers

  20. They do different lengths chains for different size cc machines if you use then on a husky you will need a spacer washer as the hole size is different than a stihl work great on bracken and brambles but as Luke said they don’t work so well on grass

  23. thinking of trying to get some1 to convert a diesel generator to run on woodgas when i get my workshop set up . even red diesels expensive now
  24. you wouldnt want to do cleft post and rail with that would lose to many they would run out the side normally done with a hammer and wedges or a cleaving iron but looks a great tool for splitting firewood
  25. put some metal palisade up a while ago for a fencing firm i sub to at times dont think theres anywhere cheap to get it from expensive stuff
