  1. If you are doing your own jobs get a tipper truck. If you are freelancing get a van..
  2. I gave up trying to do my own. Rob has a very quick turn around and good results. I believe he was going to run some arb specific training a few years back. Mr Robert Kehoe BEng.(Hons) BSc. Director ActionCAD Ltd. You'll find me on LinkedIn. Tel: 01606 374997 Skype: ActionCAD.Rob email: [email protected] ActionCAD Limited 172 Delamere Street, Winsford, Cheshire. CW7 2NA ActionCAD.co.uk
  3. I have had both.. the transits are a big van the grafter is a small truck.. imo
  4. CrewMedic - Marine First Aid Kits - First Aid Kits for Boats Some one posted these a while back. It may not be the arb aid but I'd recommend the pelican case. Add a few israeli field dressings some eye wash and it makes a good affordable kit.
  5. I have had a company from Manchester repeatedly calling me of late, started by saying no thanks, end up hanging up on him when he got rude. He or someone else from Manchester then calls up again, to which I hang up, I then got a couple of calls where he doesn't speak. Rings each week. Bloody annoying...
  6. Rather then sell it keep it and get a new one! If it works and you know its history you might only get a couple of grand for it. Having a back up machine is always handy.. Also makes expanding the business easier..
  7. This is what I use, don't know where I got it. Age Class: Y Young; tree in first third of life expectancy M.A Middle Aged; tree in second third of life expectancy M Mature; tree in final third of life expectancy O.M Over Mature; tree in decline V Veteran; tree with major physiological decline, surviving beyond the Typical age range for the species
  8. We got pulled a few years back, we pulled in confident everything was fine, they thought one of our chippers wheel bearings had collapsed, gave us an enforcement notice and to start with wouldn't let us take it back on the road. As our yard was literally 2 mins from the stop they let us take it back at 10 mph. We took the wheel off and it just needed a bolt tightening, took all of 2 minutes to repair. It took longer trying to get the notice removed!
  9. As our business has expanded I now am doing 15,000 miles a year so ditched the 4x4 for quoting etc and got a caddy van worked out that we would save £1000-£2000 a year on fuel alone. Someone started a thread on the Dacia Duster Pick up. Worth considering. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/76593-pick-up-truck-3.html
  10. They had one in Christchurch NZ by the cathedral (not sure if its still there) they used to pick them from a MEWP as it made such as smelly mess!
  11. We had a 222 OK machine comparable to our TW 190. Except the stress control never worked..
  12. BCT run courses. Events and training - Bat Conservation Trust
  13. Cheers!
  14. What are the rules to burning waste onsite. Got horrible site to clear where a biulding has been knocked down and left for 20 years. Had a look on google. There are no laws against Garden bonfires only the nuisance they cause. Is there anything else to be aware of? It's just bramble and budlia etc..
  15. I have been impressed with our vermeer BC230 XL. I don't think it chips quite as quick as our old TW 350 but there's not much in it and 2 or 3 men can move it by hand on flat ground. I know I have posted this before but a thread is always better with photos..

  17. I am very tempted..
  18. We sell at £75-£80 delivered for a bulk (builders) bag. Seasoned, mostly hardwood. But within 5 mins of our yard is a company advertising ton bags for £25! and two others at £45.... One of them is buying in timber!
  19. Our processing of logs seems very inefficient. Two guys can only produce 10- 12 bulk bags in a whole day. We have a wood pile of arb arisings mostly man movable and most above 9 inch diameter because we chip anything smaller. Currently it is cut to 8-10 inch rings with chainsaws loaded onto a trailer then split on a 10 ton hydraulic splitter. The sawing is slow and the guys end up blunting chains as the wood is often dirty and they are working on the floor (they are big logs). The splitting is then slow as each log is split one at a time. I want to speed up the operation and think splitting first into billets then cutting the billets to size might be quicker. Cutting billets to log size would need a different method however, I am thinking a saw bench or perhaps a truncator. How do folk cut your billets? Can a device like the truncator hold them?
  20. Still looking
  21. Don't the regs state that the inspector "should" be external? We had a council insist that we had to have an external assessor.
  22. We are a great firm to work for
  23. Called them 3 times, first 2 times said they would get back to me (didn't) next time said to try Fitzgerald..
  24. I am still looking for digger and grapple, any size considered.. 2 weeks work from 6th of October.. Long Eaton.
  25. Any chance of a direct number/address for eddie? Marjorie at Fitzgerald does not seem to understand what I am after..
