  1. Maybe pop in sometime during the day if passing... but no point sitting and watching...
  2. I bet it's cheaper just throwing men at it.. 9 times out of 10 when looking at awkward access jobs I end up just using people. You can hire quite a few able bodied men for what ever it costs to hire a crane... Certainly a lot less risky, less likely to cause damage and the clean up is easy with lots of guys..

    Wages

Whatever the market will pay, but it is not £50k a year in my experience.

    Wages

Assuming they do an 8hr day that is nearly £50,000 a year.

For a freelance to make 23,500 they would need to be on just over £100 a day. Or £110 if spending the £1000 training and £500 PPE

    Wages

Rough estimates£23,500 About £22,000 including National Insurance contributions. Plus £500 odd in PPE, maybe another £1000 training He would have to be charged out at at over £100 to break even, plus VAT.

£100 a day is over £26,000 a year. Which is about the salary of a Nurse. Their training cost rather more then 2 weeks and £1000..
  8. Look forward to your call, although it's Best to call steve 07786 916 103 as he deals with it..
  9. I got a Nao last year for night running with the dogs, I couldn't find it yesterday and took out my old tikka, big difference.... with the Nao it's like running in the daytime...
  10. I have notified the FC of a couple of cases of Sirococcus tsugae on cedar..It seems to be all over..
  11. I thought S. tsugae was restricted to cedars. Checked FR and seems to be restricted to cedars and hemlocks.. It probabbly is a Siroccus sp, but probabbly not S. tsugae. But still notifiable and no known treatments. Sirococcus (Forest Research)
  12. Looks like it to me? Has any one know any effective control..
  13. Canopy Tree Services are looking for a climber, but we can offer a role that is more then just smashing out conifers, with the potential for long term employment in Arb. As an AAAC we also undertake Tree surveys and AIA's and we need help!! If you are thinking of a future in tree work that is more then just climbing, we could have a position for you. If you have a level 4 qualification but are finding it difficult to make the step into consultancy we could be a perfect match.. 0797 0325 361 [email protected]
  14. We currently sell ours to Stobarts and have done for years, normally about 100 tons at a time. Demand seems to cycle where sometimes they are desperate for it and at other times they don't want any... At present they do not need any (apparently they have lots from forestry, but will need it if it snows..?). It's not an issue at present as we have space to store it, but if this is more then just a dip in demand we will need to get rid. Is anyone else buying it in bulk (I am not interested in selling small loads or dropping of at farms..). Cheers.
  15. There should be some way to make it work.. on a turntable.. you would struggle to get short bits in..
  16. I still think the chipper mounted on a pickup with a tipping trailer has potential.. It would definitely give you a better legal load. I have only ever seen that timberwolf on the landrover and there was a a greenmech shredder on a sprinter i think..
  17. Does it make any real difference if you have to charge 20%.. Surely most pubs are VAT registered so will claim it back..?
  18. Even the bonus for productivity has issues as guys may cut corners to get a job done etc.. I quite like the board of shame idea... Although it is a bit negative and might be difficult to enforce...
  19. We have a young lad, son of one of our employees who wants a position as an apprentice. He did work experience with us and we have him in on Saturdays some times to help out. He is keen to be taken on as an apprentice, as he is a good worker, I would like to help if we can. But to be honest I don't want to be stuck with all the training costs... again.. What is the best way to go about it. Does he need to be connected with a college? Is there funding available to me as an employer? Anyone taken one on recently, as I believe things have changed?
  20. I would be interested in any system you come up with as I have wanted to come up with something workable for a few years. As most employees don't care about kit like most owner operators. I don't think it is right (or legal) to charge employees for breakages. We break stuff in this game sometimes. I don't think leaving it a year and saying your christmas party aint happening is incentive enough as it is too long between breakages. My thoughts were coming up with a figure (based on how much is spent monthly on repairs though breakages) then any breakages are taken out of it. If there is anything left ant the end of the month the bonus is shared out.? My issue is that it will make the guys less likely to be honest about breakages..
  21. We have a 130 but its too small for your main truck if you do general domestic work. You can probably legally carry more then a transit as I imagine it weighs less..? It cost more than any of our other vehicles, is the oldest, least comfortable to drive and carrys the least, it is therefore generally the back up vehicle, but when you need to go off road which we do every now and then it is invaluable. It will also last forever in a triggers broom sort of way.
  22. Find someone with a quadsaw or similar.. All cuts to BS3998.. [ame] [/ame]
  23. Never heard of growth regulators used to slow growth of trees.. What does it cost and how often do you need to treat a tree? and is it really a good idea..? Paclobutrazol: Sometimes what you don't know can hurt youThe Paclo Truth | Paclobutrazol: Sometimes what you don't know can hurt you.
  24. Full time position available for the right person..
