  9. pop into a saw shop and you can pick it all up. what you need, combi spanner, files round and square, file handles, raker gauge and bar scraper. voila one chainsaw sharpening kit. I never use a file guide. learn waht a sharp cutter looks and feels like. Oh and after every cut don't stop for a drink of water Jamie
  10. worked in a manky kitchen. i was regarded as a good KP cos i rinsed the dishes after they came out of the Dishwasher (the rinse cycle was broken). I lasted a week till pay day. The place was called Little Johns in Ayr, it closed down Jamie
  11. i think the snow is alright just now. when i was in cairngorm 2 weeks ago only the upper runs were open, they still charge full buck however. Jamie
  12. teh snow was ok, last winter was great in Cairngorm, the days i was there had about 2 foot of pow and a whiteout which kept the crowds away. Jamie

  14. At my work we also do some pruning, all my prunning cuts are normally less than 6" above the ground. I did do some prunning in Holyrood Palace the other day Jamie

  19. i prefer the sound and feeling of driving steel wedges in more than high lifters. Had a good wedging tree the other day. Why are we not meant to use steel? Jamie

Zip the nose (not the 'kickback' area) around from teh base of your gob, don't cut deep just score the bark. make some other cuts for where you intend the hinge to be. make sure your bottom cut of the gob is level. i find a lot of people dont 'drop' their rear hand enough. oh and practice practice practice. look at your stumps and figure out why things happened, don't just repeat the saem mistakes, you are not a robot. oh and practice practice practice. I used to live in Ayr, never again. Jamie
  23. Dont dump wood on ropes. Try to let the wood weight the rope gradually. If in doubt, use a stronger rope or a smaller bit of wood. now i just need an accurate and easy means of determining the weight of bits of tree. Jamie

  25. Call companies and be persistent. I know my boss is busy. He gave me this bit of advice regarding CVs. Send it in then call a few days later. Be honest about your abilities, don't knock yourself down but if you are fresh from college the real learning starts now. as for companies pick up the yellow pages / yell.com. Jamie
