  1. my problem with MEWPS is that they are one more thing to avoid Jamie
  2. Whenever i want to head out for the night i always head to Edinburgh. good bus service, good pubs, hills just a short hop away.....oh and me I'm trying to pursuade my lassie that she wants to do a running and camping weekend. doubt it'll happen however. Jamie
  3. my steed on Harris. I'm after an On One inbred to make into an offroad fixie normally it doesn't have pannier racks, and full length mudguards and skinny tyres. Jamie

    Harness Help

Please change that to anything for life support. Its your life on the line. If you don't know its history don't use. Jamie
  6. I hear ya steve, but its not a double braid, like i said if anything its a tripple, or a double with a second core. When and who? Jamie
  7. cost Jamie
  8. Spatha, i have both the big blue on in my splicing box and the wee orange one on my harness. http://www.needlesports.com/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eneedlesports%2ecom%2f&WD=spatha&SHOP=%20&PN=Mail_Order_Tools_142%2ehtml%23aPET_20SPATHAS#aPET_20SPATHAS and a zubat. jamie
  9. a knot, dont swear. there is a secondry core within the core. I don't know much about it but from their splicing directions it looks either twisted or parraell laid. when someone gets it open up the cord. who is importing / selling it? Jamie
  10. better than fly, fly was a kernmantle rope, this is a double braid and (important if you're a geek like me) splices normally, not an ugly splice like the fly Jamie
  11. A phrase from mountainboarding pain heals, glory is forever and chicks dig scars. if i was a bit less sensible i'd be up for that. looks like a blast Jamie
  12. I use a bit of cord, it can be cut easily safe and can be unloaded under pressure, its called a prussic Jamie
  13. I spliced a split tail up for a small swing cheek pully out of Hi Vee. its a harder rope to work than XTC and arbormaster but doesn't have as stiff strands as arbormaster Jamie
  14. my bike at the top of Bealach Na Ba, the pass over to Applecross Me and my south Uist Benbecula, The Hebrides were Sunny and the rest of the UK was soaked those two days.
  15. I'm not a fan of Marlow ropes. I've spliced one of their double braids onehanded. the braid was way too loose for my liking. I've heard lots of bad things about their first 16strand line (i know it has changed now). I have other reasons from other cord based industries but this isn't the place to air them. go good go american (ropes that is) i climb on Samson Arbormaster and yale XTC, I have some Yale blaze and i really liked it but after i cut my hand i cant grip it tight enough / it hurts likle buggery Jamie
  16. I've heard about it, I've heard folk stateside call it a triple braid. seems good Jamie
  17. cycling, hill running, rock climbing, snowboarding, mountainboading, drinking, day dreaming, seeing the missus (normally on a hill run) drawing etc, gym occasionally. At the moment i'm doing a lot of running, my legs hurt if i run on the road which luckily enough i find painfully depressing anyway, off to teh hills for me Jamie
  18. PM sent Jamie
  19. truth being told i have an ascender strop i made out of 8mm Marlow D12, it has a breaking strength of 5360kgs. down point is its a bit skinny and not confidence inspiring at all. Just be safe with your rope fibres. strong, low weight, low elongation and boyancy doesn't always mean safe. Jamie
  20. JP yeah i was riding in Italy, well for 3 hours until i found a hole and mashed my knee. that pic was of my mate Martyn. He rides for no snow Jamie
  21. just saying winch line doesn't help as different ropes have different characteristics. The Welsh lady was probably right. Carolyn from proclimber yeah? and i wouldn't like to use any arb rope in fall arrest situations Jamie
  22. Rope fibre and melting point in degrees C Polypropylene - 170 Polyehylene - 135 HMPE (dyneema and spectra) - 135 Nylon 6 - 219 Nylon 6.6 - 254 Polyester - 256 LCAP - 330 Aramid - Chars at around 450 Vectran is an LCAP Technora has a decomposition temperature of 500 and at 250 degrees is still retains half its strength all this was pulled from the web Jamie
  23. I've done an elm with 8 wires. i think the tree was only about 6 foot above the wire so it was a bit fiddly. on another job i sectioned tons of poplars in this garden, missing every wire. came back to do the stump grinding and cut teh underground wire. Jamie
  24. you are getting you rope fibres mixed up. you were speaking about Dyneema (spectra) at first but are now refering to Technora. two totally different rope fibres Jamie
  25. Improved, yes jamie
