  5. Sent to me today by a friend This really brings into perspective the actual figure of one billion This is too true to be funny. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. Stamp Duty Tobacco Tax Corporate Income Tax Income Tax Council Tax Unemployment Tax Fishing License Tax Petrol/Diesel Tax Inheritance Tax (tax on top of tax) Alcohol Tax V.A.T. Marriage License Tax Property Tax Service charge taxes Social Security Tax Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Workers Compensation Tax STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt. We had the largest middle class in the world and Mum stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? Can you spell ‘politicians?' I hope this goes around the UK at least 100 times. What the hell happened???
  6. How about one of those big Yanky trailers/caravans Steve, even you could manage to live in one of those, you might need a bit of a bigger truck to move it though................
  7. I think you'll find the grooms in both episodes were both Romany and English, one was a Smith from down your way, and the other was a Lee from up the north both very well known family's in the travelling world, I know relatives of both family's very well......
  8. You'll always long for that beautiful sound of rain on a trailer roof now your in a house....
  9. That's easy if you have a women, just get her a few grands worth of Waterford crystal or Royal Crown Derby...............
  10. Theres only one caravan designed to be lived in permanently and thats a Roma! new ones are about £1200 a foot lol but you can pick them older ones up for under £5,000 on ebay and auto trader http://gypsytrailercaravans.webeden.co.uk/#/new-roma/4542209248
  11. I've got a ton of old hooks, long short, grass hooks the lot, in the shed dating back to the 60's proper steel! I'll dig them out tomorrow..............
  12. I beg to differ I use a Typhoon multisport drysuit all winter with no problems........
  13. I don't know any tree that will physically damage a wall with its roots, with its trunk yes! so saying that I wouldn't suggest any big tree is grown near a wall, the only trees I would suggest planted near a wall are grafted fruit 'espaliers' birch would be OK though, as would Laburnum, dwarf conifers etc
  14. It works better than a Hakki Pilke Eagle.............
  15. And another thing I've noticed over the years Tony, not all tree report writers are arborists.........
  16. To answer the question, you need to know how deep the foundations are and what type of soil structure the tree is growing in. Deep foundations will not be affected by tree roots, but shallow foundations combined with clays soils can be a problem, as the tree in dry periods can dessicate the soil leading to the soil to shrink and the foundations of the wall to sink/drop/subside, sandy soils in fact all other soils pose no problems, its only highly shrinkable clays soils that cause subsidence... Saying the above, I think what the question really wants to know is do roots ''physically'' damage walls the answer to that is no! roots will run along the wall but they won't grown underneath and physically push it over
  17. All staged reduction are a of time and money, oh and never hammer a birch
  18. You don't need training top use a ''sit on top kayak'' just make sure you use a pfd/life jacket leash your paddle to the kayak, and wear a drysuit if going out in winter, if you plan on anchoring up then that's a slightly hazardous task but not rock science.........
  19. http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk plenty of kayaks for sale on there, I'd suggest a sit on top as opposed too a sit in kayak
  20. Maths not you're strong point?
  21. As low as £250 a day
  22. Chalets and walled sites, no point having mobile caravans if you can't stop on the old traditional camp grounds, but saying that most travellers have a small tourer caravan to get away in the summer to horse fairs or visit relatives on other camps, or pull up in the various places like B&Q carpark it has to be said See its not about the actual living in a caravan its about being within farting distance of your family, family comes first and foremost to them, they hate being apart, how would you like it if one day when your girls get married, instead of having to move 100 miles away, your girl and her husband move next door nice way to live isn't it, you see her everyday you see and play an active part in your grand children's upbringing, in a way its like non travellers did years ago when they lived in villages and people weren't forced to live miles from family.. Next question, the NHS, Dave regardless if you live in a house, a caravan site or on a field you own [and trust me they all have an address] escapes the tax man, over the last few years I have helped no end of travellers fill in self employment forms, weather they put every penny in the books is another matter, but then that applies to everyone in society, so if your paying tax why would you not use the NHS. I'm not going to say no traveller is on the fiddle, but you must remember up until the last 30 years many travellers, undertook seasonal nomadic farm labouring, no schooling for the adults or the kids, lots of over 50's can't read, so running a legit biz for SOME might be rather daunting if you can't read or write, but I'm happy to say most kids go to school and learn to read and write and a large percentage go on to further education, for example building related courses, my mates boy represented the UK in the international bricklaying championships, and my mates niece represents the country as an events rider Frostie's Royal showing is just Grrreat, as pauper Phoebe lords it over Zara | Mail Online As for the girls and how they dress, the little girls are dressing up, and emulating exactly what they see on MTV or the like and also copying there older sisters, the life a a traveller girl is very monotonous to be honest, they aren't allowed boyfriends some have to be in the company of a relative whenever they go out, they don't finish education as a rule, and end up cleaning , and looking after children life for girls compared to settled people is very limiting and in some peoples eyes oppressive, the only time they get to really let there hair down is at a party or a wedding, so they do go OTT BUT they are in the company of there own people, they aren't allowed to drink and woe betide any man that can't control himself! Its one day daddy or big brother won't be dishing out chores, don't forget these girls don't go to nightclubs so in one way they don't really know how to act in such an environment, other than what they have seen on music videos and TBH I haven't seen many girls act or dance like this, I think a lot of what we saw was egging on by the film makers Put it like this lots of travellers aren't at all happy about how the girls have been portrayed One big fat Gypsy protest
  23. Don't believe the hype, every human on the planet could fit on the Isle of White, the next time your on an aeroplane take a look down and see just how much of this green and pleasant land there is for us all to live and grow food, and bye the way 40% of food is chucked away before it hits the supermarket shelves, bent carrots and odd shaped fruit the housewife, they claim won't buy............... I take with a large pinch of salt most of what I read or see on the news or in the papers, lots of it is the rich man's propaganda to keep us producing wealth for them not us.................. And I have 5 children.......... The £20bn food mountain: Britons throw away half of the food produced each year - News, Food & Drink - The Independent
  24. Prior the industrial revolution you'd be surprised how many people/family's camped near the turnpikes not just Irish travellers/Pavee or the Romany, literally thousands of people lived a nomadic lifestyle, from peddlers and hawkers, knife grinders, chimney sweeps, weavers, drovers, horse dealers, agricultural labourers, tin smiths, musicians, actors to just about any trade. As a nation of people we are at no stretch of the imagination all related to travellers of some kind or another, you only have to check out the old censuses of the 1800's to see that From the looks of your avatar some of that juice still flows in some of us.....
