Ok Daniel, so you have finally shown your face on here, first of all, welcome. Perhaps you would care to answer a couple of first questions. Why is it you persist in carrying out these type of far fetched and risky methods instead of dismantling in a more controlled and safer manner? On many, if not all of your vids there seems to be a much safer way of getting the tree down. Can you justify dismissing safety and replacing the main priority with your higher risk methods?

May be able to help with the walnut Ian but it will be a while before i can check. If my memory hasnt gone too bad, i seem to think there is a log about 15" diameter and same in length. Dare say it could go on Franks shipment if it comes off. I will look next time im there.

With you now, looked like it was dinner time as a couple of lads were heading towards the header trailer with flasks! I had been for a look at a job up the road where i should be felling a couple of ash trees into a field of wheat at the back of the village, but it hasnt been cleared yet. Guess it will be next week now:thumbdown:

Hi Mark, seems strange how we've never met and live so close! Cant remember anyone waving, but it does happen a lot when i dont know who it is, so i just assume folk mistake me for someone friendly:lol:

Cheers for that Tom, just been on the phone with someone and they suggested similar. Thats milling the lower stem (approx 15-18 feet) then where the limbs start, cut into rings, possibly with the groups of limbs in the center of the log. You think that sounds like a plan?

I've got a monkey puzzle to take down tomorrow, around 45 feet high, 20"-24" DBH. Can anyone suggest the best way to cut it up to keep the timber? I.E, thickness/length of planks if i use the mill, or is it best to crosscut shorter logs for turners etc? Any info would be good:thumbup1: Pete.

Not a real big fan of hinges that pull fibres like that as it reminds me of my felling days (being told what not to do!), but there is something very fascinating about that second pic. I like it:thumbup:

So therefore any other "lifting" device wouldnt fail either if maintained under PUWER? No need for LOLER at all then? The point is, does it lift a load, YES or NO? If the answer is "YES", it should be LOLER'd.

Being a little naughty as you know Dave, and perhaps not right derailing the thread, but i do feel i have a point. In answer to you, i am sure it is possible for a wedge to come adrift, splinter, or even fly out due to defects/damage to the wedge, possibly having catastrophic results. Oh, and i do know its already covered by PUWER Bob!
