  1. two short days. if they follow my instructions then it should last well. ie. a dose of clear wood preserver once a year. :-)
  2. I like this one better than the tatton park one, I don't quite know why, but its the piece i've enjoyed carving most from the whole year. I would have liked the wood to be larger diameter, I could have got a better join in the middle then, but I like it anyway. btw I'll be running more courses next year, I'll do some specific ones like faces etc too. I know harry was interested in the face one, and mick was asking about the advanced. have a good christmas mate and love to all
  3. hi bart! camilla told me you worked there today, i would have come and said hi but i had to leave. it looks like i'll be back next year to carve that other lump... ;-)

  6. basket ball player is coming on slowly, the cheshire jets are through to the final in the BBL so I'll coincide it with a trip to B'ham NIA and present it there! hopefully get some national press involved!
  7. way better than some i've seen on the american forum! just make the ears smaller and you've got it. black bears look like dogs anyway!
  8. Awesome! good going Tommy, you deserve a big job. don't undercharge! Cherry pickers are ok when you get going, just focus on the carving and not the machine!
  9. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmsfqHH_DbQ]YouTube - Carving Hendrix.mp4[/ame] Here's the video at last! 20 minutes condensed to 3:40... apologies for even picking up an electric saw but the fumes inside would have been a little overpowering!! (it's not bad for detail.)
  10. ha ha! nice tommy, have you heard anything from Rodney recently? he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. yeah I think if I'm interviewed I'll just talk about your work anyway mate ;-P Missed you last week! ps love the gollum avatar!

  18. I'm going to be running courses, but not at set times. it will depend on how many people are interested. I'm up for sharing tips etc, just give me a call 07886 881815 and I can tell you a bit about how I started.
  19. (Love the landy Geoff! ) plenty of oil will slow the drying process too so don't skimp on it!
  20. the trick with ash is to get larger diameter and split it down the middle. without the centre of the tree in the piece its way more stable and really hard wearing.
  21. Hi John, the joints look fine, I find those joints are very forgiving as the wedges keep everything nice and tight. here's a bench and table set I made with similar techniques.
  22. ahh, cheers guys.
