Sounds like a broken clutch spring, a very simple cheap repair, remove the e clip holding the clutch bell and have a look at the springs.
  2. No I have not it is my own original idea honest! To be fair if MrHaas makes the one in the video available I'd buy it as for me the original HAAS is on the bulky side.
  3. My only concern is that this will stretch Arb Asoc to much! I do think it's a great idea though.
  4. True either way, although there is always the satisfaction in making your own or even improving/customizing your own set-up. I'm trying to think of my own design and was toying with the idea of making a foot loop which stays permanently on my foot which i can clip a more compact haas system too for ease of storage on my harness, as now i'm older clutter on my harness is annoying and so is to much kit.
  5. That lower limb had a very strong union is all I can say, it supported the limb with included union until eventually it sheared under the massive pressure. You can see how that limb unzipped once it reached the bottom of the zip the fibres were strong enough to hold the limb on.
  6. Not often something like this is filmed.
  7. Had ours over a year with no problems, great saw.
  8. Indeed, anyone ever thought of trying a dynamic base tie off? Like the CE lock. Our ropes are classed as static and as such I would not want to take a fall on either semi or fully static lines. For me though I prefer a semi static as I find full static lines harder on my body. I hated my cougar blue for DdRT and it pretty much sat in a bag unused for a year, although I am finding a new love for it in single line use.
  9. Hmm, are they class 2's? I only wear type A personally I'd rather not wear any chainsaw trousers, but if I have to these are the lightest most comfortable ones I have tried. The SIP progress I have are also very good and tough just to hot and heavy compared to the glad vents so only come out in winter.
  10. LaSportiva trango evo S lightweight and well built, been out a while now so you can find a good price.
  11. It was supposed to read lightly thinned not ruined a predictive text error and me not checking. Alas I am not as gifted in being able to eloquently put forward my points, but I think you covered it well. I am not pushing fell and replant it's just the option was not a consideration in the original post and I felt it should be. The tree I posted has several steel static braces, and a prop some of which have been in place for 20 plus years, it is worth noting that these static braces have caused other issues now.
  12. damn predictive text, and open to opinion, at the end of day that is all this game is often about one mans opinion.
  13. If possible a great option to, here is one of ours. We have recently lightly ruined this tree and installed a custom steel prop, along with mulch circle to drip line.
  14. What's the saying? "Greatest is the man who plants a tree whose shade he will never feel" Protecting living monuments is a priority, but so is replacing the many we lose for future generations to enjoy, the cycle of life and all that.
  15. I can assure you Chicken of the woods is not highly unlikely on Beech, but probably not an issue with this tree more of a cautionary are there any other issues present with this tree. I am highly un-qualified in this area, but have a little experience dealing with mature trees. We also go further than most to retain mature trees where ever possible, and as for planting I doubt many here have carried out as many replacement tree planting projects in the urban environment as us! But sometimes you have to be pragmatic in approach to mature urban trees we can not always be sentimental and occasionally the reality is fell and replace is the wiser option. Now I can see the pics more clearly I can see there is what looks like other compression forks present, let's also consider the altered dynamics of the tree, limbs often act in unison to absorb and dampen loads, the loss of the major limb will of affected this. Complete removal of the other limb would probably only cause further problems and stress to the tree. If retention of the tree is a high priority then I suggest trying to rebalance the crown as sympathetically as possible, trees need to move so heavy reductions can potentially cause further problems with root to shoot ratios and all that jazz, not to mention the stress increasing the chance of the trees ability to deal with pathogens. If the targets can be moved great, I know David Humpries is big into this. I do not want to see another living monument given the chop I am just trying to be realistic and all options must be considered Even fell and replant.
  16. To be fair there is a massive difference in Cougar Blue V Cougar Blue, it's one of the problems with Donaghys they cannot make a consistent length of rope. My cougar blue is so static it hurts to climb on it literally like dyneema others I have tried have a similar stretch to a good bit of Yale 12mm's
  17. Fell and replant, hard to make out on my phone. But there is an exsisting cavity which could be host chicken of the woods, or dryads saddle. Also the lowest limb looks like a compression limb and therefore not the greatest of attachments. 240 kids there on Tuesday playing near underneath? So high target risk. Why bother to retain?
  18. Imam worried that it is a losing battle, I thought OPM was not going to be a problem but here of them turning up everywhere, a few sites around Reading now with OPM.
  19. Sounds like the impulse pipe has come detached to me.
  20. Where are these arbs if they are being churned out as there is a real shortage here of skilled Arborists to.
  21. Nice work James
  22. I use cougar blue, and so do a few others I know. As for ascenders, I wouldn't use them only on Kernmantle apart from a pantin or used below the hitch al la haas style. For me I always use a Kernmantle access line with ascenders for crown access with a hand over hand rope walker system it's simple fast and efficient. I then leave the Kernmantle in place for rescue. Then work off something like cougar blue or over master with a hitch usually DdRT, but starting to use srtwp more and will probably use a haas system more.
  23. Take it in turns if your on a pole hedge cutter to reduce HAVS I've had serious problems from doing hedges. I can't hold a hedge cutter for more than a few hours now, so don't. Although it was profitable.
  24. We really like our bc1400xl nearly 2000hours on it, although only heard good things about both the woodsman and Morbark chippers, it's just the support you get with the Vermeers over here is good even if the service is poor, we fix our own chippers as VermeerUK seem to have no idea how they work so pretty useless at servicing them but least they get the parts quick.
  25. I think this SRT video is pretty cool, obviously I could do better on DdRT but for a single liner not bad.
