  1. No, Doug that rings a bell is that Bradgate Forestry? Are you going alone then? I've had a couple of climbing lessons I'd like to be competant at it one day.
  2. I don't know if its a national law stopping hire, I just know the two hire shops in town wn't hire you any form of chainsaw with out a ticket and you hiring the minimum saftey kit. Don't blame you for not mentioning names, I just wondered if he knew you in which case he knew he could trust you thats fair enough.
  3. Did the guy know you? Its slightly off topic but I also think a first aid course should be prerequiste to CS30.
  4. I have no problems seeing where I'm going! I still work for the Environment agency Mon-Fri but am slowly building up my own business doing Agricultural fencing and some tree work, though this is limited to mainly forestry rather than tree surgery.
  5. I don't think you can hire a saw now without a certificate certainly none of the hire shops around here will. It will go against the grain and probably get a lot of peoples back up, BUT! I don't think anyone should be allowed to buy any chainsaw without a certificate of competance. They are bloody dangerous. I mean no dis respect to you but I don't see why farmers should be exempt from any new rulings. There are enough accidents in Agriculture every year so if they regulate chainsaw sales it should be to everyone.
  6. Did you use the Bedford before it went to Mr Georges then Pete? Or was it another?
  7. Lets see if this works, my daily driver
  8. I think you are right steve but on the last saw I bought I was going to save 10-15 quid mail order I'd sooner spend that and get nice service from the local outlet.
  9. Dunno how long ago that was, But I do know the senior Ranger there recommends Walkers highly now so may be things have changed a bit. Walkers have their own platform now don't they?
  10. Hi Steve, I got an email from you, presumably you got my address from that old site thats gone done the swanny! I find Arbtalk really good and a mine of usefull information I don't post as much as I'd like as being new to the industry I don't always understand what you lads are on about! Matt
  11. Who's Us?
  12. Well you know where I go and I got a good discount off the book price of my last saw, plus to me they are local, I won't buy a saw mail order as its a pain when they go wrong. TerraTruck are a toolhire firm and know sod all about saws they should have their dealership taken off them, The other place you could try is PS Marsdens at Colwick Nottingham.
  13. Before I could afford my Ms440 Or 660 I only had my 260 I ran an 18" bar on it wthout any major issues as said keep it very sharp and just accept that its going to plod along rather than race through timber like a larger saw would. I managed for a year doing some fairly big logs for firewood but I wasn't working the saw every day, When I could afford something bigger I did. Good Luck
  14. The National Forest woodfair was at Beacon Hill Near Woodhouse Eaves on August bank holiday. Even got a write up in this months FBT Mag.
  15. Its is a nice old bit of kit, He used it at the National Forest wood fair to shift a piece of timber for us on our stand. I thought he only took it to shows didn't realise it was still used on jobs.
  16. Yes Stuarts place, Don't know about Honey brothers, but they dont buy in from Buxtons! I started using them last year after Buxtons kept ballsing up simple orders. they are now very competative and for me there great as they are on my doorstep, but I suppose being towards melton mail order is more convienient.
  17. Ah right!! Off topic completely are you or perhaps more importantly your gaffer aware off the aborist suppliers in Loughborough?
  18. Currently I work for the Environment Agency the job I hate!, also have set up my own little company doing mainly fencing and odd tree jobs I picked up here and there had Cs 30 &31's for 8 or 9 years now I want to move along a bit to climbing and forget fencing! I know George Walkers, I heard all his guys are subbies very few on the books or is that a local myth? Who do you work for now?
  19. I'm too a this stage of my climbing career so can sympathise! Trouble is I'm climbing so infrequently too! I'm sure I just need two or 3 days consecutive to get used to it!
  20. Not to mention JCB who hold the land speed record for a diesel engine!

  23. a low loading height is far from being lazy! We've been unfortunate enough to use a Gandini shreader in the past and the hopper is very high its bloody hardwork loading it! I take it everyone wants a chipper under 750kg to avoid confusion with driving licences of younger employees or do a lot of you use 7.5tonners? Or am I misssing something else?
  24. The Method statement as I understand it describe how you are going to carry out the work to be done. The risk Assesment lists the risks and their severity , control measures and and wether or not its safe to continue. Thats my understanding of them, but I wait to be corrected
  25. Can't for the life of me remember where I read the article on Havs that mentioned both blower and chains. but yes there would be lots of cheap chains!
