  1. Yep anything that I know the setting of I use the wrench for. Carry the torque wrench in vehicle to do wheel nuts too! that way they are not over tightened giving more problems later!
  2. Yeah so if that grosses 3.5 and the chipper is over 750kg its an ilegal setup for cat B licence holder. if the chipper is 750 or less its legal. be interesting to see what you turn up when asking.
  3. Bob, Is it just a misunderstanding of the situation?, i.e if the firm had bought unbraked tw150's the new lads could have towed them, but braked are heavier so they can't. What are they towing them behind? its very easy for even the most competent person to be confused by these regs.
  4. I've only just started climbing but can honestly say I don't fancy that from a rope and harness! Think I'd be more willing froma MEWP but then I haven't seen it done around here at all.
  5. Evening All, I am thinking of purchasing an Alaskan Mill, Have any of you used them? also is there a course avliable to show all the ins and outs? I used to work for a local country park who had one and I used the mini mill alot just not the big version. I have a 066 so have a big enough saw. The primary reason to buy one is for spare time use rather than to earn money with it It just seems a shame to log all timber I fancy getting creative! Any hints tips appreciated Matt Ps Sorry if this is in the wrong section steve!
  6. Just been on the phone to a mate who has a lot to do with Tw's he put it another way, take the brake drums, shoes, braked coupling and cables off a braked machine and its under 750kg add that little lot to an unbraked model its over 750kg thats the issue with the TW150.
  7. I aim for 6-30 -7am starts finnishing between 2pm and 3.30pm. but I offer a little extra cash for the early start. I work in fairly remote area's where early morning noise isn't an issue.
  8. Sorry I beg to differ! Can I ask who told you that? I borrowed this From NTTA its also on DVLA Driving Licences Summary You must hold a full driving licence to tow anything. Most drivers who passed their test before 1 January 1997 have licence categories allowing them to drive vehicle and trailer combinations weighing up to 8.25 tonnes. With effect from 1 January 1997 the second EC Directive on Driving Licences (91/439/EEC) came into effect, affecting new drivers passing their test after that date and HGV drivers who obtained their licence after 31 December 1991. The net result is that new drivers will only be allowed to drive and tow the following combinations: Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (category B) with a 750kg trailer (4.25 tonnes total MAM). Category B vehicles with larger trailers i.e. > 750kg, provided that the combined MAM does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and the gross MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle. To be able to tow combinations outside this ruling requires the passing of an additional test. New HGV drivers and those who have passed their HGV tests since 1 January 1992 will be restricted to towing trailers up to 750kg until they pass an additional test
  9. Its no more than 3 miles from here and my neighbour is ploughing there, I haven't gone as I think £5 a car with one single adult in is a tad dear! but thats just me. Oh and there was a big farm sale this am!
  10. Its all very very complicated! I've spent hrs looking into towing regs. for anyone who passed the Cat B test after the 1/1/97 They are restricted to a vehicle with a gross weight of 3500kg and a trailerb weighing no more than 750kg or A vehicle and trailer combination of no more than 3500kgs the trailer can be heavier than 750kg but not heavier than the tow tug! Clear as Mud isn't it. To tow a trailer over these weights the candidate must pass the B+E test which costs about 90quid. Oh and how many of you with Transits grossing 3500kg towing chippers are using Tachographs? or are you all running under the forestry exemption?
  11. Drop us a pm tellin me when and I'll try and pop down the shop that day.
  12. Have you done any for Stuart yet?
  13. If your staying legal, you will get as much chip on a 130 as you will a tranny tipper. You won't find one under 5k though! I would also recommend a Tranny engined LDV for that price.
  14. I'd Agree with that! It really doesn't look like a DAF but then we can't call the driver a liar!!
  15. I can't comment about female climbers, But I have a girl who works for me, She works as hard as any bloke I've ever worked with, she'll drag brash all day long and is an excellent saw operator and maintainer, she will quiet happily drive a tractor or a digger when the need arises. If I was recruiting I'd be looking for another girl like her. Half the blokes in this industry seem to be matcho in a rush and abuse the kit! No offence ment to anyone on here.
  16. Food for thought maybe, But I take it you don't run this vehicle in the UK? If you did you would need Cat C1 on your driving licence, you would also need to hold an Operators Licence and have a Tachograph fitted as the vehicles Gross Vehicle weight is over 3500kg.
  17. I find it scary though that my 10 year old Landy is worth more than a 3 year old hilux though! The japanese stuff depreciates far to quickly its frightning.
  18. I don't have this problem to often, but on the days I do employ someone I tend to think about it! There has only been one nipped bar so far in 3 years but the vast majority of what i do is on the ground. If someone comes to work for me for a day, week, month whatever, I look how they are treating my kit, if they sling it round and abuse it I would ask them to pay for any damage they cause. On the other hand the lass that nipped the guide bar was a very concientious saw operator who I'll employ when ever I have work for her. So I just shrugged me shoulders got another saw out fixed the other at my expense. I accept mishaps happen and if they are genuine and not expensive I'll carry the bill. To be honest I'm far less happy if I damage summat myself!
  19. Mines a 300TDI chassis is solid as a rock apart from the rear cross member but there is a new one on the drawing board with built in rear winch when the time comes. Its a 130 Hicap The 300TDI is much better for motorway work than a 200TDI, but the 200 makes a bettter towing engine. who ever said I need more lights well watch this space! lol
  20. Do You mean george walkers? Didn't know they were husky dealers? Wheres their place? The only other one I know is Marsdens at Notts.
  21. Tim, You wouldn't belive the amount of random toddlers that stand :ciao: when I drive through town!! And yes the fitter that services it, always comes out with "Can we fix it? Yes I can!"
  22. I'm just to knackered after working today to go out! I'm gettin old1
  23. Lol, cant really help you with what to buy as I've never used a 365, what I will say is work have had a fair amount of agro with new 357xp's they don't seem as good as the old ones.
  24. Yes I understood you needed a ticket to buy a top handle saw. I'll ask what the gospel answer is on monday.
  25. Yeah I've been building the land rover and kit up over a few years and it'll probably take a few more! got 4 saws and loads of bits n bobs now so I'm gettin there!
