  1. The splice with the black whipping looks like it has been finished with this type of whipping http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/LockStitch_Whipping.pdf But you shouldn't be able to lift the whipping it should be really tight, I am no expert though but it just looks a little odd.
  2. Fish eye lens, though I did not take the pictures.
  3. Yes the chains are not set correctly.
  4. Some of those Redwood shots.
  5. Fair dinkum? I feel Tim Craig sniggering into his cocoa for the blind alley he may have led us into.
  6. Good grief! Who on earth is that joker?
  7. Good question, it's better known as Levitation and takes years of silent meditation. I can't do it.
  8. PM sent.
  9. I have tried to get you to sponsor me Steve!
  10. Well after doing another 16 strand eye splice this afternoon I will emphasize the final bury should be done in two stages, it's so much more easier.
  11. Here is Paul's site Ropetek - Home 100ft a minute is very quick.
  12. There must be Peter, I can't live my life as a free wheeling Anarchist.
  13. Nice snake collection Bob, splicing for other people? oops, I would never do that! What are the rules anyway, not allowed at all, not allowed to sell, allowed for personal use, only certificated approved splicing allowed?
  14. Peter, nice avatar.
  15. Redwoods — National Geographic Magazine
  16. Very nice Bob!
  17. My Mrs just said that I must be a little sad to be looking at pictures of hitches on a Friday night.
  18. Here you go Bob, whipping much closer to the splice on this Elderid I just did, much harder to do than the New England. Sorry about the quality picture.
  19. Whipping is going through the splice so should be OK, yeah very flexible, double braid? I am still practicing with that Marlow you gave me Bob but I am having trouble despite finding double braid eye splices pretty easy when I first did it.
  20. Old rope is a nightmare, you can soak it in water to try and make it easier but I avoid it.
  21. I have just been given some of this cord New England Therma-Shield 8mm Friction Cord Anybody used it?
  22. Chandlery, Ropes, Rigging & Safety Equipment - Jimmy Green Marine for the sail needles, sailors palm, whipping twine, Fid, wire fid I made my own at first from piano wire, I am back to using home made ones after the one that I got from Nod http://www.treeworker.co.uk/ broke,(I didn't bend it right!) Nod also got me the Brian Toss splicing wand which is a great tool Brion Toss Yacht Riggers, Sailboat Rigging. A good pair of sharp scissors, marker pen and a tape measure is also useful.
  23. Yeah the first couple of 16 strand I spliced I ripped plenty of skin off my hands, I was chatting to Nod a while back and he said he had the very same thing happen to him, If you check out the 16 strand eye splice video on the Donaghy's website you will see how to do it without the pain, namely doing the bury in stages so there is far less friction.
  24. I use Saturn blades on my TW with no problems. They honored a great 3 set deal at the AA show the Monday after the event, they sent me two sets that they had in stock then the final pair a while later, excellent service.
