  2. Several here to watch heres a link to one of the series Extreme Loggers: Ice Logging: Plan of Attack : Video : Discovery Channel
  3. I googled it after asking stupid questions? So no, I havent tried it.
  4. i-Tree? Is that for iPhone/Pods?
  5. Hi Dan and welcome to the forum. What price will you offer regarding hardwood/softwood? Will you collect from site, or is it delivered in only? As you may be aware there are many operators already in this area, and many collect from site. All the best:001_smile:
  6. I dont think its argument, its discussion, ok a minor derail from the original question, but all relevant. understanding employment law is very important, bosses often tend to only tell you what they want you to know. Employees only use the laws that suit them. At least on forum we can discuss both sides of the coin, with input from all sides. Hopefully this openness will show all sides where they stand, and avoid awkward questions to employers.
  7. The PL cover, as a subby, is not essential as the co you are subbing to should cover you while working for him on his jobs. However as a bona fide sub-contractor, you are taking the job on in your own right, therefore require cover for your work. It is not a legal requirement (wrongly IMO) but one of the basic things to be recognised as truly self-employed by the HMRC is accepting the risk for works you carry out, and having PL cover proves that you accept risk professionally. I hope I've explained this correctly:001_rolleyes:
  8. Nice work and a nice vid mate:thumbup1:
  9. The only thing i woud change is I would have got into the job far younger, tried as I might I couldnt get into the Forestry Commission so messed about doing other stuff. "Arb" work wasnt really around as we knew it, though we did have a successful tree cutting co locally. I did conservation work at 19 for a couple of years, but then went on to other work.
  10. Pure class!!
  11. Now that is very good:thumbup:
  12. Wise words young man, spot on IMO:thumbup1:
  13. Then he has done you a favour, as s/e he doesnt have to give you anything
  14. in reply to bobbysm You've hit the nail on the head there. You would be out on your ear, labelled a trouble-maker to anyone your boss talks to. If your boss is reasonable, then a friendly chat would be the way around tricky issues, you may find he is more than helpful to you. You have to be careful not to have an "attitude" when discussing, storming in fluttering bits of paper under his nose may get his back up.
  15. Good on ya then, in which case I'll retract my earlier statement. Sometimes wording comes across differently depending on the way its read, I was maybe to quick to judge this time. Sorry.
  16. Looking good, you should be well chuffed with a result like that:thumbup:
  17. So the shovel must hang up to be recordable....no mean feat then, good one mick:thumbup1:
  18. Looks like a good days reccing, what was the record height of the shovel-slinging? Is this now an Official Sport of Arb meets, and who is the man to beat? Couldnt see any sign of nosh there:thumbdown:
  19. If the spikes are blunt, they can be sharpened. If the rope is fit for use, then use it. Graphite powder will ease the sticking crabs. Your boss has invested in your future, you only have to follow the forum to see how many would wish to be in your shoes. You may find that climbing is not for you, commercially, so why would he buy you all new kit until he's seen if you can stick it? If and when you make it, then think about improving your kit, till then show a little more appreciation to your boss. Oh and if I were your boss, and read this, I'd be more than a little disappointed in you
  20. Just a bump for the newer members, read back through for some pics of tools I've made, and check out B101s post on towing limits:thumbup1:
  21. Just bumping this thread for the newer members. Charlie, how are you finding the Cheng shin tyres now? Many users in this area complain of skittish handling. I've just fitted Titans up front, 6ply, and they handle well on and off road. Pic attached of the extra wide low pressure tire fitted to my trailer for extreme off road work, raised the trailier considerably giving better stump clearance. Been trying to find various other pics on forum to give an idea of mods I've made.
  22. Most of the loaders I've seen demoed have been painfully slow, in fact its quicker to load by hand. Of course this puts more strain on backs etc, so is a trade off. Nice bit of kit though
  23. I hate to say this, but i feel your diabetes may possibly hold you back in this job, just as many other disabities can. I hope for your sake that it doesnt, but it is a tough demanding job even when you are in the peak of physical fitness.
  24. Its easy to forget how it was when we started out, I was lucky that the first saw I used was a heavy old dino-saw called a Pioneer. How I struggled with that. But I did my course with a Husky Rancher 50, it was light as a feather in comparison. Your ability and confidence and competence will grow, your next posting on the subject will be too proudly announce passing.
  25. the 310 is 59cc, weighs in at around 5,9kg (13lbs) so is a little heavier and more powerful than a 260.
