  1. Had a wonderful fun-filled day trimming a box parterre. The highlight that is particularly etched in my mind is clearing all the clippings out of the blue slate:thumbup1:
  2. Very......ummmm........
  3. I know, but I didnt think it would catch on:laugh1:
  4. yeah its about time we had somewhere to get the strains of the day off our chest:thumbup:
  5. We're not fussy Dave:thumbup1:
  6. I've opened a thread for daily stories of gentle tree loving folk:thumbup:
  7. Yeah, you can get all the plough blades, rotovator bits, snow blower etc for it. It'll cut down saplings, so qualifies for tree pics:001_rolleyes: Think this model is about 1300quid new, its a year old, so done about 48 weekends work, though I dont think it was used all the time, so not a bad deal.
  8. How about putting your daily tales of joy (or woe) down for us all to share (and laugh at/point fingers etc)
  9. I was expecting you to have been assaulted by a 70yr old troll, butted by the Billy Goats Gruff, then blown up...in fact just another normal day for you:001_smile:
  10. here's my latest purchase... erm deal. Came from the Community Payback scheme, the reprobates kept driving it at each others legs in a game of chicken, so it was deemed wise to get rid. So in exchange for a new strimmer I had the BCS
  11. Blimey the northern monkey lives:biggrin:
  12. [quote=RobRainford;3 In a way its creating one wound as oppose to lots and lots of small wounds through the cambium So what about a small reduction in size of the tree? many many pruning cuts not exceeding 100mm over the entire crown of the tree? Surely a few small nicks from spikes wont cause that much stress to the tree (not that I condone the use of spikes in prunes) Given a choice, the tree would have nothing removed at all. Do you know in the case shown that an emergency rescue had not taken place, and spikes were worn in this event (see Afag 402 section 13, use of specialised climbing equipment)
  13. I have a little diary book thing and a stubby chewed-up pencil, does the job for me. Technology.....pah!!
  14. Just have a read through this, Problems with Builders or Tradesmen | Consumer Information make sure you've done everything by the book, as I'm sure an aggrieved client would take this step too. Btw I'm not suggesting by any means that you have done a bad job, but seeing it from the clients point of view may help.
  15. Care to elaborate on the electric fence tape idea, I guess you pull it tight along the length of the hedging before trimming?
  16. Useful tips thanks:001_smile:
  17. I have a large buxus parterre to trim, in very formal grounds. Normally I'd whizz a hedgetrimmer over most stuff, but am wondering if I'd be better using hand tools for a better finish? Thoughts please.
  18. I'm just reminding people of the rules, as I've seen how previous threads in this vein turn out. Of course you are all free to discuss, but we mods have to ensure no-one is offended too. As you say, a bit of a tightrope walk, whilst juggling fiery balls blindfolded:001_smile:
  19. I will interject here to remind some of Rule 4 of Forum Rules: 4. No attacks, insults, or flames** - be it on someone's person, religious beliefs, race, national background, sexual orientation, or whatever. This is VERY important. If you have a problem with somebody, do not flame them on our website. Take it somewhere else. No flaming of ANY kind is welcome here. The quickest way to get banned from our website is to break this rule. This includes public posts, group posts, private messages or contact methods supplied by the member of this site. A persons religious belief is something they can hold very strongly, and of course others may choose not to share that conviction, it would be nice for this thread to be discussed properly without the need for further moderation. Thanks:001_smile:
  20. Oh cheers Pete:001_rolleyes:
  21. Funniest thing I saw was on "Emergency Bikers" ch5 last week, police bikes pulled in a white van, breathalized the driver who I happened to know. He blew positive, 1yr ban and 450quid fine. Thing was when seen the other day, he said he'd got pulled and told them it was mouthwash and said he'd got away with it!! I reckon he'll be getting pulled again any time soon, as he's still driving his company van daily.
  22. Keep ya voice down, that'll probably be next weeks Big Idea:biggrin:
  23. Wow burrell, have you made that from the ground up? Im in awe, the skills to make a proper working engine such as that are incredible. Good post.
  24. Has he forgotten he said he's visiting the APF, or is he gonna cry off that one as well (or is his missus thumbprint wearing away the last of his hair:lol:)
  25. I am not going to pretend that I have a qualified opinion on this matter. What I personally dislike are those (from either viewpoint) that endeavour to brainwash others to believe their way is the only way. I was taught about evolution at school, I believe in my mind that it makes sense. I was taught about the Creation in Sunday School and church, and having learnt evolution it made then no sense to believe that the church was right. I have colleagues who believe strongly in the Creation, and after a while of listening to them, I merely pointed out that I didnt care for their preachings, and to please respect that I have my beliefs as I respect their right to theirs.
