  1. OOooo Tortoise porn
  2. I have one of those stubby breakers, I just stand on it to tip the tree, saves your back a bit too. Also handy when chogging down and you need to lever a slab off.
  3. Oh, I am!! I aim to build my core strength up....eventually. I aim to lift like I used to......eventually. I'd forgotten what it feels like to feel good after doing weights, seemed to have slipped into my "senior years" (bloody young doctors) and vegetated somewhat! Most of you guys are doing what I was doing at your age, so just dont start doing what I'm doing at my age!!
  4. Any tips will be gratefully received on my part. I'm currently working with 10kg kettles as i dont really fancy a coronary today. I'm doing them more slowly and more controlled than many of the "instruction" vids show, mainly so I can still breathe by the end of a set As I said, I'm physically in a worse state than I have ever been, too many ciggies smoked over too many years.
  5. I know one thing, its a lot tougher this time around! I have a long way to go and its all uphill this time. At least i can breathe now
  6. Well, I must agree with you David, the difference I feel to a couple of weeks ago just doing some light workouts with kettles is inspiring. I'm not going at it hardcore, just limbering myself up and tunng myself in at the moment. After many years of physical neglect and heavy smoking, I may just give myself a heart attack if I go in too aggressively (esp now I'm in my senior years as a certain lady doc put it the other day!) So I'm doing a mix of cycling to excercise the lungs and the old ticker, and kettles to build my "core strength" and hopefully one day I may half as fit as I was in my early 30's!
  7. Just reminded me to put my Anorak in my Man-bag, next to my Bat-spotters guide!
  8. Oh and a couple of Murphys
  9. Think I'm better prepared for this evening now, set up a voice recorder to the detector, so I can playback and check up, night vision scope to track the bats, camera and a seat.
  10. Suddenly got into this lark, got me a bat detector (cheap heterodyne model)and went out at dusk last night to see who was about. I know we have a colony in the church, so the churchyard was a good place to start off.Tracked one for about an hour. Just wondering, if there is a resident colony, do they go off and hunt individually, or in a pack? Or would this be prey dependent and a shortage of insects meaning the "pack" would spread out? Another point, my neighbour was concerned with the dense ivy blocking light to his house on the oak outside. The ivy had smothered 2/3rds of the tree, so I recommended cutting the ivy at the base. This year I have noticed bat activity in the evening has severely declined. I think the bats may have moved their home because of the ivy dying off, which is a shame, yet it shows the need for balance between nature and man.
  11. By "one strike" I mean any criminal offence, regardless of severity.
  12. What is the answer then? For many many years, execution was the way, for many crimes not just murder. As recently as the Napoleonic Wars, you could and would be executed for stealing an apple. This was to deter looting from the locals to build a better relationship with them, early hearts and minds. But hunger and the desire to eat meant people would still thieve to eat. Execution was no deterrent when the belly was empty. Nor is it a deterrent to murderers, just look at those countries where capital punishment still exists. However, we do need something to discourage those that will take lives, prison just doesnt work, execution doesnt work, so what will? Yes they need removal from society, to protect us all, but just wasting time in a cell is too costly and inefficient. I do believe murderers have lost their human rights by stealing anothers life, and they should be tasked with useful duties such as mine-clearing in Afghan, and if they survive a tour, then they are given a licence to go back into the public arena, with one strike and they are back inside.
  13. I'm breaking myself into this fitness malarkey gently, been a slob for too long, gentle bicycle rides, a brisk stroll and some of those pink girlie weights is all I need! Any more than that and I'll probably have a heart attack!
  14. Thank you everyone for your support in here and the pms. I have had nghtmares about throat ops, voice boxes, spreading tumours and so on, all because I was too big and too clever to not listen to people in my life, because I ignored the warnings on packets etc. It isnt big and clever, its plain foolish, I was lucky, I only lost my voice for about 8 weeks, I couldnt communicate. Try going in the bar and not being able to ask for a pint. Try talking in a busy restaurant, try being understood at work.Imagine that for the rest of your life! I was fretting all night last night as to what would be found when the camera was pushed down my throat, luckily nothing. I am a lucky one who got away this time!
  15. Well, back from the hospital following various checks for Throat Cancer etc. I'm clear!! Woo-hoo. I've never really been afraid of much in life, but the fear of throat cancer and the period of waiting to find out has had me on edge for the last couple of weeks. i intend to carry on the good work of not smoking, its noticeable how much healthier I feel already. Good times
  16. I know, but I suddenly thought as i was typing it that if they werent up with the times, they probably wouldnt even read this page Oh well, it killed a couple of minutes writing it
  17. Seems many dealers (not just arb, but everywhere) are stuck in the Dark Ages when it comes to customer service. The internet has shrunk the world, we have come to expect instant results, no waiting for 28days for parts nowadays (if you were lucky. The world is the buyers market. If dealerships dont adapt to this, they will fail in time. So what if you bought a saw from Jones, B&Q or anywhere else, its a saw, I'm a professional, get it fixed or lose my custom. I went in a dealers to get some parts, they took a couple of weeks to order them and the parts were wrong, "Oh we're sorry, it'll take another couple of weeks to get the replacements in" No it wont, dont bother! A couple of days later I had ordered the correct parts myself and fitted them, within 48hrs!! Dealers (who wont be reading this because they are too far behind the times!) wake up and get with it, or lose out!
  18. Its only going to get worse as local govt cutbacks lead to the closure of recycling centres. I cannot help but wonder at those who go to the effort to load their cars up with fridges ovens, old tvs etc then drive 20mies into the countryside to chuck them in a ditch, when the recycling centre is in the nearest town! Worked in many a wood where the locals have dumped their rubbish for years, they dont see anything wrong with it either!
  19. This year I have seen many sparsely leafed cherries. This is in part due to the long dry spring, the trees have tried to reduce moisture loss through minimising their leaf cover followed by a damper warm period which has led to mildews forming on many plants.Dont forget we also had some sharp late frosts which killed off many new opening buds. This is the time of year to prune back stone fruits if required. It can never do any harm to aerate and mulch around the base, hopefully give the trees a better start next spring.
  20. I always use Barchams or Deepdales nowadays, no-one else comes close in respect of quality and knowledge.
  21. SAFETY HELMET WITH 2 WAY RADIO FM COMMUNICATION HEADSET Basic, cheap, short range set-up
  22. Just for the record, if you choose to go to the "business" level of 2-way systems, a licence currently cost 75qud for 3 yrs, but this does mean you can use higher power output than the licence-free, thus increasing your working range.
  23. good stuff!
  24. In addition, If I were developing a headset system, I would use a common frequency such as the 446 PMR range, this then wuld make it affordable for the end user to add cheap sets for those jobs where maybe more users are required, such as stop/go comms where more than 2 need to communicate, for this then a basic cheap 2-way can be added to the link for negligible cost, just a thought.
