  1. Mani- discussion requires an understanding of reason and opinion. Sorry but it's one of those irritating truths. With a closed mindset the climber would be topping out with a piece of manilla using a half hitch. Weilding a cross cut and an axe to boot. All inputs are valid for me- I take away what I need and learn as a result. p.s. I'm twice as vacant as that and three times more ignorant.
  2. Last time I was in Essex the blokes were tame compared to the women- the blokes were the ones that looked hunted:scared1:
  3. If your as good as you are arrogant I stand in awe.....................................................
  4. Ah ok- next to the "white trainers and hoodies about sign" lol
  5. Good call- can't be half arsed trees with a butt like that!
  6. All those blokes huddling together to evade the wild animals then
  7. You miss the point- there is seldom right and wrong. However the judgement on appearance shows a narrow minded approach which is equally if not more dangerous. For the record i would have used a felling cut as it was a vertical stem.
  8. "do you take a cheque" and "even if I pay cash can i get a reciept" are always answered with the answer YES
  9. Never judge a book by it's cover- some half-baked ameteurs like myself might just have cut a tree down before. It's amazing what the inept can achieve:001_tongue:
  10. looked amazing fun, although some of those picks did look a bit twitchy. Me want a go
  11. No climber enjoys limb-walking on wet slimey trees. Your confidence will increase massivley over quite a short period of time- flying hours are what's needed. Don't worry and do your best, you might just suprise yourself!!!!!!
  12. I was refering to the sling to attach a block to the tree- sorry
  13. So if i'm I'm using a typical 16mm double braid with a SWL of 650kg (10 to 1 FOS). What would you use as a pulley and spit tail and in what cofiguration?
  14. amazing how TV can change the world aint it:001_tongue:
  15. Sorta good to watch- edit made it a little patronising for the ladies though. Note to mr narrator - i noticed the were not blokes after the first 3 seconds. I never had an issue with gender identification after that point!
  16. Some people appear to be uncommonly sensible- the rest of them sheep!
  17. I prefer the 440 and the 460 ( i own both)- better power to weight. To the point i've just bought a 2nd 440- time to get the drill out and do some more exhaust porting The anti-vibration systems on the latest generation of husky and stihl saws are amazing, however the drive to reduce emissions seems to have reduced the torque as the engines are restricted heavily
  18. mmmmmmmmm codine and red wine. Best hangover cure known to man
  19. I've been discussing the building of rigging systems quite a bit recently. In a typical system of a pulley, split tail, porta-wrap, sling attaching it to the stem and rope, what considerations do you give to the ratings of each individual part, and what should be the "weak link" in the system?
  20. I do- but never in the same tree:001_tongue:
  21. Nice Brendon, beech are great trees to work on and look at. p.s. I'm in envy of the Grcs, lifting linbs usually means seriously strong groundie lol
  22. By mental you mean someone being objective and viewing the human-race as a part rather than the whole? As for evidance ask those some years senior to you about the climatic changes. Even as a child i remember genuine severe weather. I hold more faith in recent recorded history as opposed to so called infalable predictions.
  23. From what I have read the earth is still coming out of the last ice-age. However the repercusions of human actions, via the consumption and combustion of fossil fuels and natural resources, have drastically accelerated the process beyond a rate which our current flora and fauna can cope. Time to accelerate the process and instigate the demise of the human race, thus giving the rest of the world a chance to recover perhaps?
  24. Monkey-puzzle is a winter prune- the sap buildup on the cuts is unsightly and nodoubt stresses the tree via it's production. For me summer or midwinter. These days i'm leaning heavily toward summer as the tree is active and can react to any present pathogens imediatley, especially the reduction in fungal activity due to the warmer drier conditions
  25. Thankfully an optical illusion- he does need some better pads though
