  1. No climber enjoys limb-walking on wet slimey trees. Your confidence will increase massivley over quite a short period of time- flying hours are what's needed. Don't worry and do your best, you might just suprise yourself!!!!!!
  2. I was refering to the sling to attach a block to the tree- sorry
  3. So if i'm I'm using a typical 16mm double braid with a SWL of 650kg (10 to 1 FOS). What would you use as a pulley and spit tail and in what cofiguration?
  4. amazing how TV can change the world aint it:001_tongue:
  5. Sorta good to watch- edit made it a little patronising for the ladies though. Note to mr narrator - i noticed the were not blokes after the first 3 seconds. I never had an issue with gender identification after that point!
  6. Some people appear to be uncommonly sensible- the rest of them sheep!
  7. I prefer the 440 and the 460 ( i own both)- better power to weight. To the point i've just bought a 2nd 440- time to get the drill out and do some more exhaust porting The anti-vibration systems on the latest generation of husky and stihl saws are amazing, however the drive to reduce emissions seems to have reduced the torque as the engines are restricted heavily
  8. mmmmmmmmm codine and red wine. Best hangover cure known to man
  9. I've been discussing the building of rigging systems quite a bit recently. In a typical system of a pulley, split tail, porta-wrap, sling attaching it to the stem and rope, what considerations do you give to the ratings of each individual part, and what should be the "weak link" in the system?
  10. I do- but never in the same tree:001_tongue:
  11. Nice Brendon, beech are great trees to work on and look at. p.s. I'm in envy of the Grcs, lifting linbs usually means seriously strong groundie lol
  12. By mental you mean someone being objective and viewing the human-race as a part rather than the whole? As for evidance ask those some years senior to you about the climatic changes. Even as a child i remember genuine severe weather. I hold more faith in recent recorded history as opposed to so called infalable predictions.
  13. From what I have read the earth is still coming out of the last ice-age. However the repercusions of human actions, via the consumption and combustion of fossil fuels and natural resources, have drastically accelerated the process beyond a rate which our current flora and fauna can cope. Time to accelerate the process and instigate the demise of the human race, thus giving the rest of the world a chance to recover perhaps?
  14. Monkey-puzzle is a winter prune- the sap buildup on the cuts is unsightly and nodoubt stresses the tree via it's production. For me summer or midwinter. These days i'm leaning heavily toward summer as the tree is active and can react to any present pathogens imediatley, especially the reduction in fungal activity due to the warmer drier conditions
  15. Thankfully an optical illusion- he does need some better pads though
  16. Be honest, expect to start at the bottom, ditch the suit (tidy and casual in my books- your working for a living), be yourself and I hope you have plenty of luck! You stand as much of a chance as anyone else so go sell yourself.
  17. Good on ya!
  18. To my understanding it is a basic course, i will enquire for you to it's exact content
  19. Bump Bump!!!!!!! We at present have insuficient numbers to run the course. So if anyone would like to take advantage of this great opertunity please speak up, or pm me. many thanks Pete
  20. Or at least e-mail the organisers with a link to this thread, as it is in the open forum
  21. Some more random pics of the carrot-( oh sorry I mean poplar:001_tongue:) felling in north Norfolk with Ross. Blood hot day and no ET running about site for Dean to perve over thankfully
  22. it is not yet a legal requirement for a notification, but i'm not sure for a tpo application. I'm not sure of the date though but it's Nov when the planning regs change
  23. Fun and games this week in carrot munching land. Been killing some tall, skinny and half rotten poplars with Ross over the last couple of days. Most about 100ft, felling practice time:001_cool:
  24. What a pointless contribution, thanks.
