These live at my yard , well they do summertime . Last week I got some logs for a friend and uncovered this little beast . Dung beetle ? . Hes dead just like an empty shell looks cool . Misuss says not in the kitchen tho .

Come on then, get your bugs out, the thread inspired by mr cock chaffer who just came to visit!

 

I could easily get distracted from fungi by the bugs, maybe this summer will see me going a bit ento, till the autumn fungi parade!

awesome Tony, those stag beetles are pretty scary i have never seen one. I saw a moth last year the size of a jenny Wren, it was getting dark and only a camera phone, any ideas?

great pics. where might one find stag beetles at this time of year? any particular habitat?

I got those stags from a malus fell in a back garden. the client refused to let me leave a stump and grubs in situ. The holoway guys said i wouldnt be able to rear them on and release them! WRONG!

 

they are now in a new home where ash pollards and dead is plentifull!

Not really up on my beetles, but guess this is the common dung/dor beetle??? He was about 20mm long and looked quite handsome!
