Advise for future travel to Scotland

My office manager is seeking advise on when is the best time to visit and see Scotland for future travel. Any suggestions on places to visit and stay would be helpful as well.

Just a little more specific. Any advise from locals that can honestly opine about the best time of year in order to see and do things. Stay would be up to Two weeks. Transportation is no barrier in order to see and do things.

Housing can vary from B/b to Hotels. Both parties physically fit, no restrictions.

Two weeks is not much time . If they nature freaks than i would suggest the west coast and islands and maybe in May most sun and dry weather but not warm.

Edinburgh in August for Entertainment but totally booked out.

May June is my favourite time in Scotland, nature has sprung back into life, weather although defientlaly not gaurenteed tends to be quite nice, kids are still at school so tourist attractions are not busy.

I like West coast as well from the bottom at the Mull of Gallloway right up to Cape Wrath at the top.

Buy a tin of Smidge keeps the midges from biting you.

May is probably the best month, not too cold, good chance of dry weather, still snow on the hills (looks Nice) less trouble with midges.

 

Things to see & do?

West Coast is the gateway to the inner and outer Hebrides

After leaving Glasgow you get Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Fort William

 

Things to see around Ft William,

 

Ben Nevis, Britains highest mountain

Lots of Commando related stuff, they trained in the area during WW2.

Display in Ft William Museum, Monument near Spean Bridge, display in Spean Bridge Hotel, all free.

 

Moving up the West Coast takes you to the Isle of Skye, used to be a ferry now there's a bridge, Once on Skye you can take a ferry to the outer Hebridean islands. Keep up the West until you reach the top at Durness, go east to reach John o Groats, mainland Britains most northerly point, back down the East coast to Inverness, go westish again to reach Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Nature reserve, go east again to Braemar and Balmoral Castle, South again to Perth and then Edinburgh, the capital and Home to Edinburgh Castle (surprisingly) and loads of other stuff.

 

Alternatively fly into Inverness and do it all in reverse.

What about the Shetland Islands ? Are they worth doing. Like i said two weeks is not much time.
