A MEWP takes you to a position that allows you to make a cut, I can do this just as well (IMO) with rope and harness.

My crane can lift several tonnes, move it and put it in my tailer, I CAN'T.

In simple terms my crane makes me money.:001_smile:

If a MEWP can make you money, buy one and improve your income.

I was not saying that the people who use MEWP's are lacking in climbing skill, I think they are making a mistake in using one, as I would sooner have the profit.

I do feel their is a risk of becoming "de-skilled" by using a MEWP.

In 15 years I have not had a single job I could not do with out a MEWP, I did hire one once for a week of reducing a Hawthorn hedge, I parked it up at lunch time on the first day and just climbed it all.

If MEWPS are so great (and it would appear much cheaper than some say) they will soon take over and I will be out of work :001_smile:

Ok I have though long and hard about my response.

Weighed up all the pros and cons involved.

Looked over all the last posts and pics of jobs involving MEWP's.

Reflected on the jobs I have used a MEWP on, not just my jobs but those I have subbed on.

I came to this conclusion.

It is only my opinion so please dont take offence.

I think you are probably right :blushing:

I was thinking about what Arbocop said about LV line clearance and maybe it is quicker with a MEWP, BUT, and I think this is the thing for ME, I just would not want to do THAT work.

For me using a MEWP just ain't climbing and I am a climber.

thats the point really you are what you are one mans meat is anothermans poisen

so no one should think any less of a climber who does not like mewps or a mewp user who does not like climbing

i was one time told bu a guy he would never do my job, this was a good 22 yrs ago, in conversation it transpired that he put the pins in tower crane booms as they self built to secure it in place,

we agreed we would not swop!!!

cheers
