Excavator with grab hire

Does anyone know where I could hire a small excavator from that comes with a grab or a thumb.

I'd like to use it for stacking up my codwood:biggrin: at the end of this winters felling, ready for summer extraction.

Loads of places doing diggers, but can't find one that can grip things.

Looking for a smallish machine to keep haulage down. Would prefer to operate it myself but am open to paying an operator.

Hewden do an 8t with a demo grab. Nationwide hire.

I don't know about Coppards but I've used Hewden quite a bit. Had an 8 tonner for a week last year. Was about £350 for the week, £85 each way for transport. Extra £100 for an attachment. All from memory so might not be exact.

Flannerys have machines with thumbs and grabs.

 

Derek Fitzgerald Plant Hire shepshed have machines and grabs for hire however being leicesterhire based the haulage could be prohibitive.

Volvo ECR88D (10t) - CW Plant Hire May be worth asking if they have any thing smaller with grab.

Coppard do a lovely 6t Neuson Machine with grab and thumb for a good price. Haulage may be a bit steep out to Suffolk though!

Microplant is probably my best bet. They are very close and have a 2.5 tonner with timber grab.

I am sure you know what you are doing but be cautious with a smaller machine and grab. Very easy to get 'over confident' and have a Squeaky bottom moment!

 

I have a 1.5 tonner with a grab and can lift 300-400 close over the blade. You swing that to the side and it's reduced to 250. Very easy to topple!

Or buy a little grapple and just hire any old digger. If you're going to be doing it reasonably regularly it might work out cheaper.
