IMO, tree work is VERY different to almost all other rope access work or rock climbing.

 

Our krabs are constantly rubbing against a very tactile surface, which can easily unscrew a screw gate.

 

I used screw gate back when I started and I often found they came unscrewed and I even found things clipped into my krab that I had not put there.

 

The other issue I had with them, was not only could a branch unscrew a krab, it could also over tighten them, it's a real pain having to get some pliers sent up the tree.

 

I love my three ways!!!

Not teaching you to suck eggs here ,but, did you know, that if you put some weight on a screwgate ie hang from it then you can nip it up a bit tighter, but you have to do the same to undue it.

 

Took me a good few years to realise it(no thats a lie someone told me about it)

 

 

I liked screwgates, always found it easier to force a bowline into when hanging on by one hand. :001_smile:
