be careful out there (carabiners)

Just found out that two of my 3-way climbing carabiners were partly seized, and were not closing correctly. Could easily have had an accident with them. Have now replaced them with new. A bit of WD-40 worked wonders on them, and they now work ok. I tend to check them fairly often, but not often enough, it seems.

try boiling them and use a graphite powder as steve says how old are thay?.

 

aye had a wired thing happen to me the day was topping a conny looked down to double cheack my lines and position and noticed my biner had rolled around a stub and open it self rite up on my main line lucky enough there was good tension on the line phew.think am going look in to a different set up to avoid this happening again.

A bit of WD-40 worked wonders on them, and they now work ok.

 

soap and water, an air compressor, graphite powder (preferably all three) would be better, dont want to be contaminating your ropes with oil... plus crap will stick quicker to oil and grease than a clean biner.

Just to add to this thread..

 

You should be checking your krabs every day as part of your pre-use inspection. it is part of the LOLER regs.

 

There was research into krabs rolling open during use not so long ago, and the ones that performed best were the new type with the push in button on the gate.
