Cut it off at ground level and then manage it to the height they need.

 

seconded, ground level , it will make a wonderful hedge within a year, cut at 4ft, it will always be leggy

 

so cutting at ground level would be preferable to at 4ft?

 

Sounds ready for properly laying.

 

Lay it i get plenty that size to do:thumbup:

 

will be lovely to lay in a few years after cutting right down. Lay it now it will be a real bugger

 

laying it isnt really an option unfortunately :(

cutting as low as possible will produce new growth that can then be easily managed to produce bushy growth instead of leaving old leggy wood at the bottom of the hedge
