  2. the generic filters are ok? ill have a look
  3. Ive had my saw for 2 years and am thinking its time to change the fuel filter anyway - i cant find the part number in the manual! can anybody tell me the part number for the fuel filter for an MS 171 please? thanks
  4. Ive done a quick google and it seems that for a compatible sprocket it will be: Oregon 544676X 1/4" spur sprocket and the appropriate chain is Oregon 91VXL034E rapid 3/8 lo pro .050 34 drive links.
  5. That looks great, id love to have it off you - but id need to find the right chain and sprocket to fit my MS171
  6. The sugi sounds great, but is too dear unfortunately The 10" bar sounds like a good compromise:)
  7. Can anybody tell the part number of the smallest bar for a stihl MS171 for hedge work? and the appropriate chain part number please to thanks
  8. Well - the current tally stands at: - Chainsaw at 4ft: 1 vote - Chainsaw from ground level: 5 votes - Lay it: 6 votes Considering the budget wont permit laying it, perhaps there is a hedge laying competition that would like to have a go?
  9. to update this thread for those who may need to know in the future: Pfanner apparently can make custom trousers in that size but require a 16 week time period (type A, class 1) And Arbortec sell trousers up to 5xl which they say on their website can accommodate up to 54" (type c, class 2) the price was basically the same
  10. thank you - and its nice to see someone be impartial about search providers
  11. Thats great - can you tell me what models of SIP and Arbortec go to that size please?
  12. I agree in some respects, but the rating is just one factor when purchasing this type of thing. Others include: the quality of the fabrics/stitching, if they give a warranty against defects, if they have been designed for comfortable all-day usage, etc etc.
  13. I appreciate the link but i foresee two issues: 1) their size guide suggests that 3xl is equivalent to 52-54" which would be quite tight on him and that would restrict movement/be uncomfortable 2) He wants his trousers/chaps from a reputable brand considering it is meant to save his leg from getting cut off
  14. I did - and then I called them. That is an old article and they dont stock the larger sizes any more apparently
  15. A buddy of mine needs to get some large chainsaw trousers or chaps in 54-56" waist Can you guys recommend a place that would sell/make trousers of this size? thanks
  16. wow - very impressive to get all the answers in one concise post what would the advantages/disadvantages be of getting an oregon/sugihara bar over the stihl bar?
  17. so cutting at ground level would be preferable to at 4ft? laying it isnt really an option unfortunately
  18. its a bit too dense to go straight in with the chainsaw
  19. I have been asked to get some advice on a row of hawthorn that someone has on their property the hawthorn has been left un-managed for ~15 years and are now ~20ft tall They are all in a line and the limbs are quite dense They are thinking about taking the hawthorn down to about 4ft so that they can bush out and then form a hedge in the future what do you think the best way to tackle this project should be? perhaps thin out the smaller limbs with pruning tools and then go in with a small chainsaw for the larger trunks?
  20. I would like to get more information about changing my MS171 to a 50 gauge set-up. At the moment i have: - MS171 - 14" Rollomatic E Mini 3/8" bar - Picco Micro Mini Comfort 3 Chain 3610 000 0050 1) what bar would be recommended at 50 gauge? what part number? 2) what low kickback chain would be recommended at 50 gauge? what part number? 3) If I wanted to use one of the duro chains for dirty wood, what one would you recommend at 50 gauge? what part number? 4) Would I need to change any of the chainsaws settings (idle speed for instance) on a 50 gauge setup? thank you
