Hi old thread but anyone know the komet butterfly 2 lifespan or if it would be under any warranty, stitching attaching the padding has ripped at the front in between the buckle and side d stitching on the nylon part looks solid though

Id highly recommend you get your harness loler inspected.

Is it worth the risk?

As you say it looks solid but are you an expert at spotting potentially fatal flaws in arb equipment?

Loler inspection for a kit is around 60 -80 quid

I am no expert either but I am also a loler inspector, if any of the critical stitching is damaged or frayed I would fail it simple, I am not here to argue about how much it actually affects the strength if it's damaged sort it or bin it.

 

From memory the Komet/miller used to state "average life span of 5 years" which was different to and rather open to interpretation than say Tefeulberger who state clearly "the life span is 5 years" I always interpret this as from first use and not manufacture date.

 

For what it's worth I used to change my Treemotion every 2/3 years.

If it's the stitching attaching the padding surely it's not load bearing?

Like Joe says, is the stitching load bearing or part of the "safety critical" components?

Pictures would be good.

There are guidelines as to how much material loss is acceptable when it comes to wear and tear.

Much of it is down to the interpretation of the LOLER examiner.

Last time I looked at the Komet/Millar instructions life span was up to 10 years from manufacture date, but only 5 years in use, so the harness can spend up to 5 years on the shelf, then 5 years in use.

 

If its damaged, get it professionally checked out

It sounds like your belly is applying too much pressure on the front of the harness and you should stay off the cakes, for six months like.

Regarding the overall lifespan issue, when it snaps it's time for a replacement.

If my spiffing analysis of the problem doesn't make sense, ask a Loler inspector.
