Greedy boards become illegal when things go tits up when something falls off the Load and insurance say in black and white " insecure load not covered " admittedly I use them on me trailer .

This would be my take on it. If they help contain/secure a load of legal spec they are good.

But if they are unsafe such as leaning Out ply boards, insecure loads.

Trouble with insurance companies is that most would try to wriggle out of paying out; even if you deem it to be a secure load they could say the vehicle had been modified without their notification... result being the driver being non-insured/ or liable towards costs.

Is it true greedy boards are illegal I have never heard this before but since working at a new place they say about the being illegal ?? Thanks a lot

Is it a commercial site? Sounds like the sort of thing a poorly informed H&S man might say - presenting problems rather than facilitating solutions for safer working.

The points about vehicle modifications, overloading, insecure, or poorly distributed weights are probably more applicable and relevant and closer to the reality than a blanket statement like "greedy boards are illegal" without any further explanation of what is meant. After all, what is a trailer cage system (albeit designed and fit for purpose) if not greedy boards by another name?

Sounds like there may be some confusion between "illegal" and "not approved for this site / work space."

Here, in France, homemade or after market adaptions to existing vehicle bodies are considered not to be strictly legal as they do not carry a certificate of conformity.

Goes for homemade trailers too.

If your homemade vehicle adaption falls apart spilling chip and logs on the A84 route to Caen and causes a pileup then I imagine this will be a factor in any investigation and litigation that follows...
