Do not ask for a cheque. They can still bounce up to 6 months later. Bacs payment with you actually checking it has been received into your account and not relying on him telling you it has been put in.

Really, even after they've been cleared?

Agree with guys saying be vary wary, but at the same time, we have sold a few bikes to a chap in Ireland, who paid via PayPal and sent a courier to collect, all with no problems at all, so it can go either way. Just have to make sure you cross the i's and dot the t's to protect yourself

it's all to to do with how they get the funds to show, if they pay a cheque into your account, with a ref of cleared funds then you check and the money is there, however when chq does not clear the money comes back out, I think if they do a propper transfer then you are ok but you need to call your bank to see what route the money took to hit ur accnt

Why even consider going through with it? He might be genuine but it appears to be a faily hefty risk - so why take it with so much money?

In your first post you said he was 'willing' to pay more than you hoped for....

In my experience real buyers usually offer less to start with and should be happy to 'prove' they are genuine.
