did they not cover how to find out what file size on your cs 30?

back to school for you boy & dont use another chainsaw until you understand the full workings, its a poor show if you dont know what size file you need to match the chain :thumbdown:

Here you go tuppy, 3/16 file for this;

 

its a 341 out of the box so to speak with the stihl chain still on it.

Oregon takes a larger file, hence;

 

7/32 I thought - tis on my 036 (Oregon 75LP chain)...

 

Very curious as to how you've been sharpening until now though:sneaky2:

cheers for the replies guys,

 

i know i should now all this stuff but im starting to forget alot of the stuff i done at college because im not working with it everyday,

 

i know that probably sounds like a really bad excuse but its the truth, think im going to have to start reading up on everything again.

Not sure about the 341 but the 340 was at the cross-over point where less powerful saws used .325 chain and more powerful ones used 3/8, so you could choose which pitch chain to run.

 

Stihl .325 uses 4.8mm or 3/16"

Stihl 3/8 uses 5.2mm or 13/64"

Oregon 3/8" uses 5.5mm or 7/32"

 

Might all sound a bit pedantic but it is the difference between scraping, gouging or cutting just right!
