  1. Not a definitive answer but I think the test for harness use in the sit position (EN813?) places a 15KN load on the harness for 3 minutes. If you think about the figures they seem to add up: 15KN = a load of approx 1500kg Safety Factor of 10:1 gives you a 'safe' climbers weight of 150kg. Does anyone know a climber heavier? 'All climbing equipment used for PPE should have a minimum breaking stregth of 22kN' may be due to other equipment potentially being used to suspend two people, as in a rescue. The figures aren't consistent but still gives a 'safe' climbers weight of approx. 110kg. When you look at many rules and regulations, lots of grey areas appear between what looks black and white. Regards Ben
  2. Not very pretty but you could try the fine spikes they use on buildings/bridges/archways etc in built up areas to deter pigeons. I'm sure there would be a way of attaching them without nailing or screwing them in.
  3. Poplar was/is used for matches as it burns so slow. I read somewhere that in times gone by alder was highly sought after as it made an excellent gun-powder and that sawing elder released evil spirits but breaking it didn't! Anything burns on a fire that's hot enough, it depends what you want from a firewood as to whether it's 'good' or 'bad'. i.e. fast heat/easy to light/hot coals/long burn/cheap! Ben
  4. Not sure about the 341 but the 340 was at the cross-over point where less powerful saws used .325 chain and more powerful ones used 3/8, so you could choose which pitch chain to run. Stihl .325 uses 4.8mm or 3/16" Stihl 3/8 uses 5.2mm or 13/64" Oregon 3/8" uses 5.5mm or 7/32" Might all sound a bit pedantic but it is the difference between scraping, gouging or cutting just right! Regards Ben
  5. Hi Moz I've had SIP and Stretch Air both in Type C (all-round protection). All-round protection kind of makes Stretch Air not stretch so loose this benefit. Both are good trousers, 'Airs perhaps harder wearing but zip-fly broke early on, SIP cheaper but still good quality and not in the same league as much cheaper trousers. I'm currently wearing Husky's new-ish Type Cs which look and feel as durable as wet tissue paper but have lasted well on domestic tree surgery...I'm guessing Track clearance is a little tougher on trousers. Ben
  6. Are you sure the other is Bjerkandera? Have you checked it against Datronia mollis? Ben
  7. Wood ash may have the elements but don't forget decomposition provides food for all the benificial soil organisms necessary to keep a soil healthy as well as improving soil structure.

Having similar trouble on my 9(!) year old Entec 35DH/150. timberwolfparts.co.uk (Orange Plant) supplied new contact (switch behind buttons) and relay. Now goes forward...after a tap with hammer... from above, not the side! Will order new contact for remaining buttons to bypass the tapping requirement as soon as I'm working in an area with reception. Good luck.
