Yandles by any chance?

I pass Merriott frequently with my job but 109" is 13" too long to carry without having to have the doors open for any distance.

in answer to your question it's not yandles but an ebayer that i've had a few nice bowl blanks from, proper bargains too and now she is selling three planks of a suspected unusual timber that i'd like to own.

the reason i have to rely on couriers and kind people who are going that way is that i'm epileptic and have been since i was 7.

aspenarb, thanks for the offer bob but i had a phone call tonight from another arbtalker who may be able to help me.

Does Epilepsy stop folk from driving?, I know nothing about the illness.

I do have a friend who's boy works for one of the chipper manufactures who advertise on here that suffers from Epilepsy and he drives every day.

I think you've got to be 2 years without a seizure to get a licence? I know it's something along those lines

not all epilepsy is the same and in theory i could have got a license at certain times as i was many years without a fit. people who are completely under control through drugs just have to prove that you are fit free for a particular length of time (used to be 1 year when i was 18)

for me a fit is caused by a flash of light (like through trees at sunset) or by certain patterns (strong striping on fences is a good one) but there does not always seem to be a reason as to why one occurs...

sometimes i just go to sleep or i get blurred vision but other times a full on shaky seizure is difficult for others to control and at 6'3" and a well built 17-18st i can hurt others or myself.

last year i had one on my 32nd birthday (the first in many years) and i had one a couple of weeks ago. neither of these seemed to have any reason to be triggered, the one the other week was a fit where my vision is pretty much lost and i am not necessarily in full control of my actions. the one on my birthday last year was a complete loss of consciousness and my brother called an ambulance as i stopped breathing and turned blue. this proves to me that i am not 100% under control even though i take my pills.

in a nutshell an epileptic fit is a lightening storm in the brain and every one has the potential to end my life.

this is why i choose not to be a driver and possibly career into dozens of people on a busy high street potentially killing babies old people and anyone else who happens to be in the path of whatever i'm driving. as it would be a timber van/truck is would be big. think of the bin truck that the driver fainted in scotland. that could happen to me.

i don't care if i die because of epilepsy but i would care if i were to kill others because of an irresponsible and selfish choice i had made.

What an open, honest post.

Both my wife and her brother suffer peti-mal ? Seizures, both drive as medication keeps it under control, although when they're tired you can see they're not always completely with it.

We all take driving as a right, but both of them could lose the privilege quite easy if their condition worsens.

Is there a reason that you can't take/pass your driving test?

If not you could shift small amounts of timber, and other bits and bobs for other folk. Win, win.

In short, there is no reason you cant take and pass the test if you want to.

I went through this when I had a seizure following a stroke last year.

DVLA rules (statute law) say have to have any seizures under control and should be free of what they call "levels of altered consciousness" for 12 months. You can get the paperwork moving 8 weeks before the end of the "ban"

The whole thing, to a large degree farcical because it relies to a large extent on the driver telling the truth. The Glasgow bin wagon driver is a good example of this.

My top tip, the key is to get past the DVLA medical line call handlers who have no medical training and are just reading from a script.

assuming you meant 13 feet?, where did you learn to count???

109" is 9'3".

I could have been a bit clearer, my job involves driving around Somerset with a Renault Trafic van which has a bed length of 96" (8') with the doors closed.

I could collect and hold for you or drop off elsewhere in Somerset but I wouldn't like to drive too far with the rear doors open as the exhaust fumes get sucked back in.

my fault mate , as mr bullman said i should have read the post properly before saying something. sorry.

i may have it sorted actually, an arbtalkers girlfriend lives near the collection point and he goes to london once a week and would be able to drop it off.

hopefully i'll have the boards next week.

once it's all arranged i'll let everyone know.
