Yeah, it was never a dull day at their house! The lads did good though, one a paramedic and the other in the police force, CID. Ive not seen then for probably 30 years, time flys.

Back, I don't know how many pages, to your assertion that the NHS is being used to care for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants. Have you got any figures for that? What percentage of them access an NHS service, after arriving yesterday? It's just that the vast majority of non-indigenous people, immigrants, that I see in healthcare settings are elderly, male and female gender of equal proportion and quite often obese, to a greater or lesser extent. I.e. not the demographic of your average seafaring, rubber dinghy borne "illegal". (You'd expect fighting age males to be pretty fit and healthy after all).

 

I'd wager that the obesity epidemic, and lesser public health issues, are costing the NHS considerably more than immigrants. What do you think we should do to combat that? Combatting immigration won't help with that at all.

 

Not to mention the fact that the NHS is hugely staffed by immigrants. That's a whole other strand to the conversation. Its complicated.

reminds me of something that happened many years back now, 3 of us were having a Jamesons with a dear old friend, reminiscing old tales,as you  do, and in the next room absolute mayhem and chaos going on with his two young sons, suddenly,, deathly silence,, "what have you done? you had better not have broken something" says the father  Cletus, [yes that's his real name] 

"nothing da" comes the reply along with a fair amount of giggling and mumbling, 

 "well you broke some thing, I heard the crash and it's gone quiet, show me" 

"ok" Youngest appears in the doorway holding an electric fire, 

"It looks alright to me, wheres your brother"

"on the other end da"   

"well come here both of you and sit and be quiet for a while"  

more mumbling,, and they slowly walk into the room,,

the other brother has the fires  3 pin 13 amp plug embedded firmly in his head, !!

Cletus gets up, walks over and calmly pulls the offending plug from the boys head,almost lifting him from the sofa, and says "now stop clowning around in the house before someone gets hurt" 

that was 30 odd years ago, it took a week or more before I could tell the tale without cracking up into hysterical fits of laughter.
