Lifting Bars

Over the years I've seen several welds let go through lack of penetration, many cracks due to fatigue and poor manufacture resulting in high stress concentrations. This is why I was thinking best to buy the correct items rather than get joe down the road to make it.

I'm sure a short piece of scaffold piece would do it especially if kept short and has had an event free life.

 

However from the replies I wonder how many of you bother with LOLER.

 

remember this is a hiab from a 3.5 tonner so nobody is going to be underneath it. 'elf 'an safety assured etc

Have tried several methods over the years.

Proper hiab pallet forks are a pain unless you have either a rotator fitted or two people, one working the crane and one straightening the forks as you put them into the pallet, make sure if you try them you get a self adjusting set.

Scaffold poles and chains are just bloody dangerous for lifting pallets imo, tried it and they slip all over the place.

We now use a set of 5 metre slings nailed to a piece of 4x2 that is 4 foot long, just a couple of clout nails on each end is enough, once the wood is pushed under the pallet you know each end sticking out is the same length, works a treat and have been using it for the last 4 years.

 

Edit: if you have pallets back to back on a lorry then you probably do need to use crane forks

Seems like agg to me, poles chains 2 people etc etc, just get propper equipment to do the job, if I was dealing with pallets I'd get a pallet grab no agg

Agreed, proper kit is normally quicker and safer.

Also with the policy of " if they break they get replaced" which sounds like there is a good chance of no LOLER inspections then you definitely would not want a second person around.

Presumably no ticket would mean no insurance payout.
