Lathe work lights

I was using my new set up yesterday and realised that now my work is away from the existing light in my shed and wasn't great at all when hollowing out a bowl. My first thought was to put up extra lighting in the shed, maybe an LED strip light. But now I'm thinking some sort of poseable light could be mounted on the lathe so you can get the best light on whatever you're doing.

Has anyone else got anything like that. Was it a feature of your lathe or something you've cobbled together. Thanks, Mick

Yes I use a adjustable lamp on my lathe and actually don't have the main lights on very much as I get to see the horizon of the piece when revolving better,if that makes any sense

Yeah I get what you mean. Did your lathe come with it or did you add it. I've had a brief look on Screwfix and Peter Child's but haven't found anything yet

mick, put the lathe next to the window if possible.

 

if not i have a 6' striplight above my lathe (thinking of changing it to led) and paint the inside of the workshop a brilliant white.

 

at the end of my lathe bed i have one of these.

i find that the advantage of having a lamp like this at the end of the lathe is that it's fully poseable and with two lights sources it's very versatile.

I bought a 10W LED floodlight mounted it onto a scaffold tube I had welded onto an old brake disk. So the brake disk acts as a base plate the scaffold tube is vertical, used an exhaust clamp on the tube to mount the light, works great and is portable if I need it for something else other than sitting behind my lathe.

All the lathes that I have ever used had an " Angle poise " lamp fitted ......

i got a superb industrial angle poise at a boot sale for a fiver, has a reach of about 4', with a 100w spot in it. it's mounted on a shelf behind my lathe and it's all i need, hollowing too. check out ebay and your nearest bootsales. p.s. industrial means sufficiently robust.

Can't get it to the window because of the shed layout.

Might have a scout of eBay for some kind of angle poise that was what I had in mind.

I have one of these

its heavy enough to stand on the lathe bed without bouncing about, also for hollowing I use a single led blue tacked on the chisel tip that runs of a 9v battery.
