Ash trees

I've had an enquiry from someone in Hemel Hempstead with 2 Ash trees that have to come down because their neighbour went through the roots when installing a new fence. The enquiry started off with them not wanting the trees to go for firewood and would I like them for furniture and turned to, as I was having the trees would I be arranging the felling etc.

Both trees are double house height, and are about 30" across, one is level with the corner of the house the other about 20' away and next to, if not touching a brand new fence!

Although I don't like the idea of wasting such nice timber, the logistics of felling large trees next to property are something I try to steer clear of.

If anyone is interested in taking on the job let me know and I'll pass your details on.

Have attached pic sent with enquiry

Just out of interest did you just imply that they want you to get the job done just for the wood?

I see this happening all the time just lately, there was 2 similer trees on gumtree not long ago and the ad was not up for long.Just hope someones insurance covers this type of thing.Be a braver man than me to take these on without being qualified ,insured and paid.

Yep, for some strange reason they got it into their heads that the trees were worth so much to me that I would pay to have them felled, then spend time milling and transporting the timber back to my place.

It started off with they were having the trees felled but didn't want the wood burning and that I could HAVE the wood and then went to, as I was having the timber for FREE would I be arranging the felling of the trees!

I get this so many times.

In addition it's gone very quite since I told them that although I would buy the trees once felled I would not be paying for them to be felled.

And as it stands seeing as some thieving little gits liberated my gear last week I won't be milling for a while, if ever again!

It is worth bearing in mind that ash is worth next to nothing roadside now due to chalara fraxinea. Good quality, roadside butts are making only £5-10 more than firewood per tonne in England.

I've had scenarios similar to this in the past as well but I don't touch trees like this now unless it's truly exception.

Substitute brave for stupid / desperate?

If they think the timber is worth equal to, or greater than, the cost of getting the trees down, I wouldn't expect to see them gone anytime soon.....
