Climbing Giant Redwoods

Every year, one of the ISA chapters organizes a visit up to the Giant redwoods, for recreational climbing.

I nearly went, but it was a bit short notice.

What I'm thiking, if I post this now, it might give a bit of time for an Arbtalk Posse to head out and do some giant redwood Climbing.

Anyone interested?

I've climbed a tiny redwood, 36 metres, in an Oak wood. Climbing above the oak canopy by 10 metres its like a sea of green. Must say getting into the canopy was dam hard work, but the chance to do 100m must be worth it.

put it on the "things to do before I die list"

The deal if I remember rightly is organized by Frans Smith and the NorCal chapter of the ISA. It included staying in cabins in the redwood groves, and lots of climbing.

I'm thinking if a few wanted to go, we could book in with those guys and get a deal on the air fares.

I've emailed frans to get a few more details.

I reckon it would be pretty cool to have an arbtalk tour :D

Sorry I have been away so have not checked in with my Euro brothers and sisters.

Yes, it did happen in 2007 and and far as I know, it will happen this year as well.

All are welcome, as long as the difficult issue of insurance is dealt with.

Usually, the California Arborist Association covers the insurance issues by having each participant become a member of the association.

This cost (I think) 40 U.S. dollars a year, but dont quote me on that.

The CAA web site is: http://www.cal-arb-association.com

The annual event is held at the Redwood Rivers Resort. Google that name and you will see what you will get.
