EVERYBODY!!!

maybe its an area thing Stevie, 99% of rip off tree surgery in my area is done by door to door people, ive heard many a horror story and it all comes back to door to door oppertunists, As i say it maybe an area thing and door to door is a more friendly affair/relaible affair where you are pal

no mozza, their are plenty of door to door rip off merchants up here, they pass through, leave a carnage of crap jobs and full laybys of junk..but every trade and salesman in diferent. if i salesman knocked my door with nothing but a brief case and things to be signed then i would chase him. if a young lad turned up, with a trailer load of logs and some bags and ofered me firewood. i could go outside and see the product, have a bit of a haggle and leave with the logs. if he asked me to pay for 2 ton money upfront and these logs were just the demo logs then he would be a rip off merchant..i know what you mean, and i know what i mean, but as usual text will be spoiling it for both parties at their side of the screen. lol

The main problems I have with door knockers are,

1. they are unsolicited, why are they calling without an appointment? is what ever they are selling poor quality or stolen?

2. they are untraceable, if I contact someone in the first instance, I can recontact them if there is a problem.

3. they often use intimidation to get a deal.

4. some use cold calling to "case the joint" or check if anyone is home.

I am in no way saying that all people who cold call are criminals, BUT by using this method there is a risk of being associated with them.

I would have given him both loads, his son will put him right as to his one sided deal methinks. I love a good deal, but could 'nt convince a client to part with something knowing that I was efectively 'having him over'. Just my way of working, not judging anyone as I wasnt there!
