Roll on Roll off skip a feasible idea?

I have been looking into this a bit more and phoned around a few skip hire places and most places with a 35/40yard ro ro will charge you say around 350 for the skip which includes 2 tonnes of waste but then you pay for each tonne after that which is 120 odd pounds per tonne.

This means i could see the costs being quite large once he skip is full as if say i fill it half with grass cuttings and half hedge cuttings that must be getting on tonneage wise.

Do you know how much weight was in the one you use to collect? It might give me an idea as what i might be paying...

Don't want to be hit with a massive bill at the end of it!

I'd get some other quotes - that sounds really really expensive to me...

Hi

It depends on what truck you have a chap I had some dealings with years ago had a light cage made up bottom sides and barn doors front and rear he supported this on jacking legs about 3 inches higher than the bed on his transit tipper. he used to undo the barn doors at the end which would be at the head board of his pick up he just backed up to the cage and threw the rubbish in when it was full he just closed the doors backed under it lowered it down on to the truck strapped it on went to the tip undid the barn doors at the other end of the cage and tipped the rubbish out a good simple and not massively expensive way of reducing the number of trips to the tip. It was only light box and weld mesh this let any rain soak through and as it was only a few inches higher than the bed of the truck it was easy to fill as you just walked into it off the back of the truck he made this after getting stung buy a skip firm with some over exaggerated weigh tickets

I currently do multiple runs to my local commercial green waste recycling centre to get rid of my grass cuttings and I'm getting a bit tired off all the running around going to the tip eating into my working day.

Has any got any other better ideas? or used a similar method as i'm thinking about?

Cheers in advance, James.

The landscapers around here seem to loose most of their grass cuttings down the dual carriageway once the truck gets up to about 70mph . I hope this helps :001_rolleyes:.
