removing clutch on stihl 660

hello all, my stihl 660 chainsaw started leaking oil from somewhere behind the clutch the other week so I wanted to take a look. I looked in the workshop manual at how to remove the clutch and bought the plastic tool it tells me needs to go in the spark plug hole. I've tried unscrewing the clutch clockwise as it says but it just locks up after half a turn or so due to the tool in the spark plug hole. Does anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong/how I should be doing it? Thanks, Rob S

The locking up sounds like the piston topping out against the plastic tool like its meant to to stop the crank turning you can now put a socket on it and undo it off of the crankshaft

Ok, I was using a combi-spanner to turn it. Was putting plenty of pressure on it but wasn't turning any further (felt like something would break if I forced it any more).

I have always found ( on Huskys anyway ) that compression is enough . Make sure the de comp is out get a good fitting socket and bar and give it a sharp clout ,

I totally agree, it is better to jar the clutch of against compression, inserting things into the cylinder is always asking for trouble, there is no need to do it.

Compression isnt always enough definitely isnt on a tired 880 so may not be on a 660 last one i took apart had to use a 2 foot bar to get it off

A short length on nylon rope into the plug hole and a nut gun never failed me.

Air impact wrench is the way I go…no piston stop needed ..plug left in and if real stubborn take pull start off and hold the flywheel with a leather glove.
