Small home log splitter

Well my daughter saw me chopping big knarly lumps and I found two days later on my birthday (70 now) a receipt for a forest master electric hydraulic splitter. I picked it up from the company in Heaton Newcastle I almost after I found what she bought told her to get a refund as an retired engineer I thought for 240£ it couldn't be much good but after three months splitting I'm pleasantly surprised yes it's not in the league of industrial hydraulics but it works fine no problems even with knotty pine large discs and it's built surprisingly well built for the price and after 7 years of maul chopping it's revolutionised my little fuel supply for my two wood fires. Would buy another that's for sure

All I can say is, it's brilliant, even my Mrs enjoys splitting logs with it

I bought one too. FM 16 slightly bigger with 7 or 8 tonnes splitting force depending on who's figures you read. Cannot fault its performance and it looks to be built well. BUT I've had a fault with it and it's gone back under warranty. The wheels seem to be turning very slow so watch this space to see if it still gets my vote when there is a problem.

Handy are good. Go for the highest spec you can afford. Much easier than an axe.

Anybody got any views on dual action splitters? The type with a wedge at either end that split both on the out stroke and the return stroke.

I'm thinking of Wolf Creek Cherokee models and Logmaster Dual Split.

The forest master I've got the £240 one has. All I can say my initial doubts have been forgotten it has split knarly pine full of knots branches no problem now I've done about a couple of tonnes without a hitch. I must admit I wouldn't have bought a one initially as being a retired engineer (fishing industry) with quite a wide experience of hydraulics I would have classed it as a toy ( because of the price).But no it's paid for itself, I also liked the guy at Heaton who demo'd it and was part of the design work, it's simple spares seem to be available. And I didn't fancy paying big bucks for fancy mauls, I got mine from Lidl.
