Yes I am waiting, no one wants an aqua coloured chainsaw.

Battery drill or jigsaw OK, but ditch the Makita saw line, and sell Dolmar.

Dolmar were the first mass producers of petrol powered chainsaws after all.:biggrin:

H-A

i second that but if i had to settle for a makita i would have to do a bit of cloning I.E a new wardrobe from a top german fashion house :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Well, this thread has really taken off again, how did that happen? :001_smile:

@TimberCutterDartmoor

Good to hear your 600 is still going strong. I had planned on fitting a 50cm bar on the 610 as that is listed as an option. I was hoping the 610 would be capable of running a 50cm bar as it is stated that it has 15% more torque. Funny thing is though I haven't seen it mentioned what the original torque figure was for the 600. As for Countax maybe I was just asking easy questions :wink:

@SteveA

It is not just that the colour is "yucky", and it is, there is a good reason most arb equipment is red or orange. I can't tell you the number of times I put down my brown leather gloves only to then waste five minutes looking for them.

@wyk

Most of my work is going to be with, admittedly quite big, spruce with the occasional beech or sycamore when they are blown down and judging by the noise outside that might be tonight.

@THE88MAN

That all sounds encouraging! Interestingly, the 560xp and MS 362 were the two alternatives I was comparing to the Echo. I had a look at a 560xp at a dealers and didn't like the feel of it. Maybe that was just me as lots of people rave about it. There seems to be a big gap between the external plastic and the metal underneath giving the saw an insubstantial feel. I have been a Stihl fan and user since the mid-nineties so the 362 seemed an obvious choice but I have read lots of mixed reviews about it. Plus, I'm not sure I like the Stihl "only sell on a dealer visit policy". I'm not too worried the 610 being bulky for a 60cc as I will be keeping my trusty old 023 for all the small awkward stuff.

I have decided to sell my 261 and replace it with an echo 450, mostly because of getting hold parts as i have no Stihl dealer within an hour of me.

Gosh, interesting. Did you try the 450 before you bought? I'd have thought the 261 would bury the echo; a more level comparison would have been the now deleted 500P shindaiwa based one; there's a whole kilowatt difference there, on paper...

I have never been that impressed with the 261 after running a 026 for ten years. The 261 is already starting to sound like the mighty Nuffield, i can not adjust the carb properly because of the stupid aluminum sleves on the carb screws, and there are a few other niggly things. So i fancied a change. But the major reason is the Echo dealer, who could not be more helpful.

I was contemplating Echo in the local dealers yesterday.

The 680 on paper is the opposite number to the Stihl 362. 3.3KW and £599 best price from dealer. Does that sound about the right money?

If it is, then it's no contest I'm afraid. That's the same money as a Stihl MS362 from FR Jones, and I know which will be worth the most in three years time! The Stihl is also 0.1KW more powerful and 0.6kg lighter.

Shame, as I have fond memories of my Echo 660EVL.

I realise this is a really old thread but it has been updated through the years.

I am just about to buy an Echo CS 610, so, I would be really interested in the long term ownership experience of the 600 or 610. Are they as well made as the 5 year warranty suggests?

Five year warranty!

Buy one defo.

Sent with my iPhone from me, to you!

One other thought...

The CS 6xx owners, on here, do you use rapeseed/bio oil for the chain? The Echo specs state that the oiler is "clutch-driven" presumably meaning oil is pumped only while the chain is moving. I wonder what that means for adjusting the oiler for a less viscous lubricant.

The 680 is a dog - best avoided - see the FJ article; hated the 680, loved the 600 (now 610 / 620)...
