Non payment help

Quoted a job for a hotel that we've worked for before. Always dealt with the maintenance man. He called and asked us to carry out the work.

We called in and confirmed with duty manager before starting. Finished the job, put in the invoice and now 3 months later they are saying no-one said the work was to be done and there not paying. The maintenance man left just after we finished.

I know folk get signed paperwork and purchase orders but up here it's not normally like that.

Any advice or help?

If you can show that the maintenance man has instructed you previously and they have subsequently paid, then the maintenance man has proven authority to instruct work.

Speak to the maintenance man if you can and if he agrees he instructed the work then put that to the accounts dept. if they still wont pay and the maint guy is on side, then small claims.
