Recommended Posts

Came across a marvelous Coat Redwood today that had blown over years ago and carried on growing. The top of the original tree appears to have layered at the end and that has also produced new trees. Marvelous!

 

Just wondering if there's a technical name for these runners or side branches that become apically dominant?

 

Notice the deadwood at the front which is the original rootplate.
